Kmommy 1 Posted September 27, 2010 Started a thread today about how GREAT I felt, 4 days post op. Which I did. Then I had this store bought, all fruit, banana/strawberry smoothie (very thin, can drink through a tiny straw) and from then on.... holy cow! Had nausea, and massive trapped gas. Am only assuming this is common in the first days??????? But is strawberry/banana a trigger for anyone else???? Should it be avoided? I can guarantee I ain't touching that anymore! honk 780 Posted September 27, 2010 What are your doctors diet requirements. I was on Clear Liquids and Protein Drinks for 7 days. Then for the next 7 days I could have full liquids (tomato soup) and Protein drinks. Perhaps you need to back off anything but clear liquids.
BetsyB 9 Posted September 27, 2010 Day Four was miserable for me. The worst of all days. But it gets better
tavimew 0 Posted September 27, 2010 May be the straw. My doc said don't use straws, they cause gas buildup.
btrieger 21 Posted September 27, 2010 Day 4 was the only bad day I've had. I think it was the IV fluids leaving my system. But I also lost 4 pounds that day due to this.
YouGotBiggie 0 Posted September 27, 2010 Yes, I was told not to Drink out of a straw also. You will take in some air with each sip. Day 4 was probably my best day but days 1-3, my stomach was so swollen that I couldn't get anything down. I am 1 week post op today and ate some mash taters for lunch and it was the first food since the surgery. Had me feeling good for awhile but now I am really hungry. Kmommy 1 Posted September 28, 2010 Hi guys Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I was telling myself last night that there are bound to be bad days. But the gas pain is gonna kill me!!! It's so uncomfortable! There are no gas-x strips where I live, I need to go to the pharmacy later and see what is available (my guess will be NOTHING). So apart from walking, are there any positions or exercises that helps get rid of gas? TIA
Sabrinaaa 0 Posted September 28, 2010 Just take gasx chewables, dont need strips!
Kmommy 1 Posted September 28, 2010 Went to the shops and got some ENO.... didn't help much. Now I have shoulder pain too. ISn't that weird that the shoulder pain is coming up 5 days later???
Shay7997 0 Posted September 28, 2010 It just means the gas moved up to your shoulder a little later. You should still be ok, but if it would make you feel better call your surgeon and ask about the shoulder pain. Each person is definitely different! I think my worst day was about 4 or 5 days out too. I think it's just a matter of everything leaving your system!
amandac82 0 Posted September 28, 2010 A heating pad on my shoulder help me amazingly! I'd walk and get back to the heating pad ASAP. Feel better soon!
emsbugbug 7 Posted September 28, 2010 My advice: throw the straws away, go back to clear liquids and then hit the heating pad. Many have said that walking helps with the gas, but the gas in the shoulders has been different for me. The heating pad really helped that! I hope you get to feeling better! Kmommy 1 Posted September 28, 2010 Thanks everyone. Today was not so great, again with the gas pains. Lord! Went for a walk with the kids, might try the heat pad later. Definitely no straws anymore! I am petrified of them now! LOL:wink2:
