70? I guess different doctors recommend different amounts? My doctor said to shoot for 45 grams for non menstruating women and 55 for those who are menstruating.

I eat a lot of chili - thats great protein! (large chili at wendy's has 28 grams) Also you can buy non flavored Protein powder at Walmart and put it in anything...applesauce, yogurt, shakes, etc. I like to make a choc Peanut Butter shake with my herbalife choc mix, a tablespoon PB2 (powdered Peanut Butter - can use regular lowfat) and then add extra Protein - it is like a heavenly chocolate dessert and I feel like I am getting something fabulous like dairy queen. LOL I use the vanilla herbalife shake and put in frozen fruit, skim milk, and extra Protein Powder, too. I know they tell us not to drink a lot of our protein - but I cannot eat more than a cup at a time and even then sometimes I can't eat much - so this is the only way I can get in my protein....and since I hit my "sweet spot" I am never hungry anyway...

Good luck to you!

Kim

My doc has said 60-70 as well for Protein intake. I plan 1 snack a day but again that was his instruction. I do have the unflavored Protein Powder from GNC. I do my best to get most of it via food .. eggs, quiche, tuna, cottage cheese greek yogurt however also add it to the cottage cheese, tuna, even DD ice tea.. it litterally has no flavor so I can make almost anything high in protein.

My doctor is a three-meals-a-day guy, too. And he recommends 65-70 grams/day.

I find I lose and feel better if I go for 80-100--but your mileage may vary.

I eat around 3-ish ounces of Protein (chicken, turkey, fish, Beans...whatever) at every meal. But I also use Protein supplements a couple of times a day. (Not sanctioned by my doctor; he likes patients to limit to 1/day, and as a meal replacement. I use them as Snacks. Still, I am losing at a greater rate than most of his patients.)

I like the Inspire and PURE Proteins from bariatriceating.com.

My doctor also wants to hit at least 60 grams a day. 3 meals and 2 Snacks. I try to get Protein in at every meal. In the morning I have a shake which has about 30 grams of Protein no sugar and only 214 calories. I treat my self at my evening snack if I have made the goal for the day with something nonprotein and healthy of course.

It might be hard at first until you get used to it and you will find that you actually just know what to eat without even thinking about it.:smile2:

My Doctor is another that recommends three meals a day. And the Protein goal he gave me to shoot for daily is 64 ounces, up until now I was getting most of that by drinking my Protein shakes, usually two a day, although sometimes I was doubling up on the powder to get it done in one shot instead of two servings. That is something I have been having an issue with, getting my shakes in like I should.

I just this past week, am finally in the mushies stage of my post op, so at least getting some other sources of higher Protein in now as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
