Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this site I just got my lap-band 9/22/10. Everything went well with my surgery. However once I got home I thought to myself what have I done . I was so overwhelmed with everything I cried I knew what I was getting myself in to but now that the time has come and I've been banded it just hit me hard:crying:. It's been 3 days and I'm doing a lot better:smile2: the only thing is I don't know if my stomach is growling because I'm hungry or is it because of the gas:huh2:. I'm also have this feeling like I want to burp but it doesn't happen. However once this burping feeling has passed I'm ok. Does anyone else have this problem and if so does it go away? Also is anyone else also overwhelmed when you go food shopping? I'm on full liquids but I find myself walking around and around the food store like a crazy woman :) I can't wait to hear back from you guys since coming home from the hospital I have been on this site reading the post and they have been very helpful to me :smile2:

I think we all go through these stages. The lap band is awesome it has completely changed my life. Someone said to me the other day I can't believe you were ever fat. I just have to laugh. There are many changes coming your way just remember this is a marathon not a sprint. Stick to the instructions you are given by your MD and then make the band work for you.. Good luck and welcome to our world.

Hi, I just had my band placed on 09/17/10. It has been tough some days, especally in the beginning. It gets better. I am 1 week ahead of you and feeling like a million bucks now. I do still have some pain at my port site, but that is because my Dr. sutured the port to muscle, another Dr. told me it hurts more this way, but at about the 6 week mark I should not feel it anymore. I hope so, it goes from burning to very sensitive to numb. It's weird but it is something I can live with. I look forward to the new me! I have a wonderful support team here at home and here on line.

Just some questions....I don't understand all of the acronyms used here on these posts. what the heck is PB? I'm assuming it's not peanutbutter....LOL. Anyone have a list of the meanings for the acronyms?

Congratulations!!! By the way I also don't understand the acronyms LOL!!! I've also got a great support team at home as well. That's great I can't wait to get to that point where I'm feeling better. Especially having this burping issue I have to go away. Did you have the same problem? I think maybe I should start walking more.

Hi Sammy!

Congratulations on getting your band!

I'm not sure I can answer the questions you have about the burping, but I would guess that does go away. You had surgery three days ago? Your tummy may still be swollen from the procedure, and it could be gas that's causing the burping. Maybe someone who knows will come along to answer that one!

As for feeling overwhelmed about what to buy? Did your surgeon give you a list of the things you could or couldn't have? I was allowed Soups (creamy ones. I ate butternut squash, and Tomato bisque, for example), yogurt, sugar free puddings and popcicles, coffee or tea, neither of which I drink, Protein shakes, and of course all the Water I could drink. (Actually I was told 64 ounces. I don't like yogurt, either!) LOL!

It can be hard these first few weeks, but hang in there, and be sure to let us know how you're doing! I hope this helps. !

Debbie

Hi Debbie,

Thank you! I am doing a lot better still having this burping issue  I just what I need to do is move around more but I found if I do to much I start to have lot of pain. I guess my body still need time to heal. Yes the nutritionist did give me a list of things I can buy. It's still drives me crazy having to look at the lables on food. Something I never use to do before. I'm still on full liquids I've got another 10 days to go then it's soft food. How long ago did you have your surgery? How did you with soft foods?

I think "PB" stands for productive burbing as in producing this nasty slimy stuff if your food gets stuck or doesn't go down well or if you overeat. This has never happen to me before but it has to my sister. I might be wrong though it might mean something else.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
