Has anyone here had band slippage? if so what was it from and what did your surgeon do?

has anyone cheated and ate mushies a day before they were allowed to?

If your band slips, you all of a sudden can't keep anything down. If it happens, you need a surgery to correct it. As far as moving to mushies, I wouldn't think one day would make much of a difference. Good luck!

I wouldn't call starting mushies a day before cheating...I actually called my doc and he said that if I feel up to trying the next phase just go slow and listen to my body...

Couldn't your band slip over time though?

I had a slipped band, 8 months post op. I had a stuck episode....wouldn't come up wouldn't go down. Vomited for two days and band slipped, broke all of my stitches that hold the band in place. Doctor took out .5 cc to try and get the food to pass, that didn't work. He took out 2 more cc, that didn't work. Totally unfilled me it still wouldn't pass. Two surgeries in the past two weeks - no food, just liquid and no exercise.....I think no exercise bothers me more than the no food part...LOL. So yes - slipped band means surgery.....

I just had surgery on 9/21/10 for a slipped band...a year and a half without any problems then..BAAAMMM hit with the Flu and 2 weeks of vomitting landed me in the ER for 2 days. All I could do was cry...one Doctor wanted to remove it immediately the other said unfill the band to see if it would slide back into place. I chose the second Doctors oppinion...waited two weeks to do another Barium Swallow and the band hadn't budged. Going into surgery I had no clue what I would wake up to. Choice 1. Unbuckle the Band and have another surgery in 6 weeks to reattach. 2. Remove the band and consider Gastric Bypass for a maintenance plan. or lucky number 3. If there is no sign of infection or erosion...reposition the band and start all over. I was fortunate enough that #3 is what happened. I know for me, this was an awakening that problems can arise..even if your following everything exactly as you should. If I had to do it over again, I would of went and got unfilled the first day I was sick...chosing to think I was invicible landed me surgery to fix the band and a 3 day hospital stay. I'm so glad they were able to repair it all in one surgery...very fortunate.

I had something of a bug yesterday, it came on all of a sudden, naseua. I've never vomited since my surgery 14 months ago, but last pm, I did vomit something like bile -it felt like I wanted to really vomit like before, but nothing could come up through the band. I was verly uncomfortable and still am a bit sore and weak. I can drink Water today, and I ate some chicken ground up, but feel kind of closed up at the esophaegus. I, too wonder how do you know that your band has slipped?

I was just banded on the 21st of this month and I've read a lot over the past several months about slippage caused from vomiting and I'm wondering from those of you who have experienced this if vomiting when you're sick was the norm for you prior to surgery or was it something new after being banded.

I rarely get ill and can't remember ever vomiting when I did. I really hope that isn't going to change now that I've been banded.

For me personally....this is the first time I'd ever had the Flu...and I'm almost 43 yrs. old. They found my slip by doing a Barium Swallow....Day 1 I was fine and by Day 3 it showed the slippage. I know for me, I have Phenergan (anti nausea) meds on hand now if I need them, and I will go for an immediate Unfill (complete untill) if I ever get that sick again. Surgery of any kind is a risk...a risk I don't want to take again....5 days total in the hospital, thank God for insurance!

I had the same thing a year ago, get that thing unfilled fast when your sick, it might save you the surgery. Mine the insurance did not cover the 2nd surgery. still fighting a 10 month later and I am not winning that battle. my band closed off to where I could not eat or drink. from the flu and taking IV's to eat before having surgery. Bad days Slipped bands suck.Scotty D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
