Question for the low carb folks

How many carbs are you eating a day? Also, are you counting total carbs or net carbs?

Not really counting carbs, but the food tracker says I eat between 28-35% of my calories as carbs. Hope you get some more answers

I aim for <50 g/day net carbs, but I don't agonize over the number.

I get carbs only from veggie, legume, and fruit sources. (Mostly from nonstarchy veggies.)

I count net carbs. While I was loosing I kept it around 25. Now that I am maintaining, I am just focusing on getting good carbs (whole wheat bread and Pasta, Beans, yougurt et..) No refined carbs (white flour, white sugar)

I also try to stay with about 50g net. Although from time to time I go over. Most of my carbs come from vegs from juicing So if I go over I sure don't sweat it.

From past experience, I lose best at 30-35 carbs. Over that and I have to deal with stalls. My carbs are only in the form of low carb vegies and the very *occasional* fruit. I do not deduct Fiber carbs as I found they also contributed to stalls.

You know, if carbs had feelings, "low carb people" would really depress them. CARBS ARE GOOD! They give you energy. It's up to you to choose the right ones i.e. complex carbs vs. simple carbs. Get your carbs from fresh fruits and veggies and not from cakes, Cookies, etc. YOU CAN EAT CARBS! Just choose the complex ones.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's what people are saying here. I haven't seen a single person say to not eat veggies or fruits because they have carbs. Low carb people *are* low carb because they avoid starches, white flour, and sugar, not because they avoid vegetables and fruit.< /p>

I lost about 40 lbs of my weight doing low carb preop and i loved it. I felt good, I had lots of energy, and I got off of my cholesterol meds BEFORE my surgery that way. It doesn't work for everyone, but it works for me and it is doctor recommended in my case and once I'm back on "regular foods", I plan to keep it up.

When I don't low carb, we would have bread with almost every meal and Pasta at least once week. When I do low carb, I do pretty much avoid bread because I don't find that I miss it-- but I do have Pasta once a month or so because it is a true love. I can do that without gaining, and I think everyone has to find their sweet spot of moderation.

The last post it correct- low carb to me does not mean no carbs. It means making better carb choices. I could never live without veggies....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
