Dr Alberto Aceves in Mexicali

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone has had the surgery performed by Dr Aceves and wondering if you could share your experience and opinion. I am trying to decide between Dr Aceves and Dr Ortiz in Tiajuana. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

He is my doctor, and I think he is wonderful. I have a web page where you can read about my journey. http://www.tracyslapband.com . I don't visit this forum often so if you need to email me, the address is on my website.

I just got my band from Dr. Aceves in Mexicali and would do the same again. As surgery goes EVERYTHING was letter perfect--care, skill, compassion, cleanliness. There was absolutely nothing to complain about and I doing very well, feel great and I have already lost 16 lbs since surgery Dec. 21.

Can you give me some more info on The doctors in Mexico. I have been trying to get this done in Houston. Things dont look good from my insurance company. I was told on Friday by the H/R Deprt. that the insurance would probley turn me down again ( I'm in my first appeal). So I'm looking for other options. Any advice?

I had my lap band surgery by Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico on January 12, 2006. I cannot say enough about him and his staff. They are very thorough and professional. Going to Mexico was my only option since my insurance would not cover the surgery either. What I really like about Dr. Aceves is that he talks to you realistically about the surgery and what to expect. He tells about the potential complications and explains that the lap band is just a tool, not a magic pill that will make the weight just fall off. He was also more strict that some other doctors about pre- and post-op diets and I'm the type that needs specific instructions to follow. He was not the cheapest doctor I found (although it was only $300 more), but I felt the most comfortable with him. Some of the doctors only had patients stay one night in the hospital, Dr. Aceves keeps you for two, which I like for two reasons. First, because I wanted to keep the pain meds option open, and second, it allows for monitoring longer after surgery (in case something comes up the next day - you do not want to be 35,000 feet in the air flying home and have a problem). If you want to talk to me more about my experience I can call you if you give me your number. It's depressing that health insurance companies don't recognize the stupidity of denying this treatment. It would save them millions in the long run.

he's my dr. Amazing, caring, compassionate man... my mom was so anti me going to Mexico (understandably) but she went with and LOVED him. He has kind wonderful eyes and even came to check on me one night after he got off a date with his wife. It was a great experience for me... the only part I had problems with was that I got sick from some of the medicine and it was hard trying to explain it to each new nurse that came on... other then that A+ experience.

email me if you have ANY questions!!

Just want to say hello and let you know I am thinking of you as you do your research and make your decisions. It is a big job and one that has to be for YOU. I am only 5 weeks post-op but I have already lost 20 lbs. and have more energy and more comfort already. I am, of course, in the early stages of learning to live with my band and the changes in sensations and eating patterns and drinking patterns--that is one of the hard parts for me because I am used to drinking a huge glass of Water before meals and another with the meal and a hot beverage afterward. Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
