I'm not going to lie my Protein Shakes are delicious. I'm using Rice Milk because I cannot have regular milk or soy milk. However I have been eating sunflower seeds and tomatoes and cucumbers which are on my things i can eat list, not the seeds. The first few days of the diet were like a nasty divorce. The seperation was the hardest part. My surgery is the day before yours so good luck.

I'm not nervous anymore however I will cry when the anesteiologist comes in. I hope the sunflower seeds dont make my liver fatty. I'm very excited. Did you doctor order special shakes for you? If so what kind are they? I'm on the ones from BetterMd. and they are really very good. The flavors are great.

I'm on the same diet and I was starving too.

I ended up having to email my doctor's office for some kind of alternative and was told that I can have half a turkey sandwich on whole grain bread with Tomato and lettuce, but no mayo.

I'm also allowed sugar free juice pops, sugar free Jello any time and half a cup of cottage cheese once a day.

Hope this helps and good luck!

I am allowed 3 shakes a day and a Lean Cuisine type 300 cal for dinner for the first week. (300 cal meal is the key) If I crave crunchy, red bell peppers and celery. After that, it's shakes, sf Jello and popsicles for a week until surgery day. I am using Bariatric Advantage choc and van and it is pretty good.

I was on Clear Liquids only (broth and Protein shakes) for TWO weeks pre op, then "full liquids" (cream Soups, broths and shakes) for two weeks post op. Just remember, it could always be worse.

The liver shrinking diet preop is another one of those things that varies with doctors. I have no idea what you weight, but prior to surgery, I weighed 260 pounds and I carried a lot of that weight in my belly. I had no preop special diet and my surgery went very well.

I'd say do the best you can and don't stress about it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
