tle5000 1 Posted September 24, 2010 I feel very thankful to my medical insurnance company. I just reviewed my insurance account claims and feel very thankful I have great insurance. Total billings so far are at about $30,000 for the operation. ( i went home same day) Of course they only pay a percent of this amount. They must write off the difference. Had the operation two weeks ago and am doing pretty good. Still a lot of itching but healing up nicely. Get my first fill in three weeks.
LapBandBobbi 8 Posted September 24, 2010 I'm with you on the whole insurance thing! I only had to pay about $350 out of pocket

jingleboob 5 Posted September 24, 2010 Very jealous of your insurance!!! Mine only covered 80%, so far I owe 2300 to the hospital... waiting on the adjusted rate and my 20% of the surgeon... had to take out a 401k loan to pay for it... but a lot cheaper than the almost $20,000 it would have been without insurance! I wanted to have the surgery this year before the new health insurance laws started and our premiums and % goes waaay up!
ISING2 0 Posted September 24, 2010 Even though my portion of the bill came to $1,000 I agree that having the insurance made the whole process a little less stressful. Good luck to you on your journey!
honk 780 Posted September 24, 2010 Since I had almost reached my out of pocket expenses for my insurnace my out of pocket for the surgery was about $150 (total billed by hospital $20,000). I will say though that since I am on Cobra I called my insurance to see what it would cost me to get private insurnace whenn Cobra runs out. They will not cover me becuase of the lap band surgery. I have to be 3 years out. So I will have to go through my states default insurnace pool. For a 1700 deductable the insurnance will be $526 a month for 80/20 policy. MLBL 2 Posted September 25, 2010 I'm not thankful for my insurance because it is a service we pay for, but I could not imagine having the surgery without it.
