something not being digested?

Recommended Posts

I have done very well on the diet over the past week - and have restriction. I am not stuck. But I feel that something I ate is just sitting in my stomach and not going anywhere. I have had hardly anything to eat today as it is - just some low-calorie prawn cocktail, 2 boiled eggs and a handful of cherry tomatoes. But I feel that something has been there for hours and is not going anywhere. it is not blocking my stomach - I guess it is just sludge not going anywhere. What should I do? Drink more Water?

Welcome to banded life! You are likely stuck...not necessarily completely blocked but it sounds like there's something down there that just hasn't passed. As long as you can drink fluids okay and aren't in pain you're okay for a while. Sometimes warm fluids (hot tea is my favorite) will help, sometimes time will help. I've read on here of people taking papaya enzyme or pineapple to help break down whatever is in there. Good luck, hope it passes on it's own. FYI I have a hard time with prawns, very dense and it seems like no matter how tiny my bites or how much I chew I struggle with them.

Where does it feel like it is sitting? If it feels like it is in your stomach then you are not stuck. If something is stuck you will feel it at band level which is in the centre of your chest more or less between your nipples.

If something is stuck at this point you can trying coughing it back up,waiting for it to pass etc. It all depends how uncomfortable you are. You may not be stuck but have some swelling from something that was stuck, the best cure for this is sucking on crushed ice as it helps to reduce swelling.

If you are feeling it in your stomach then I don't think it has anything to do with your band and am not sure what to suggest.

eggs do that to me every time. They are like lead, and stick around for the longest time. They don't typically get stuck for me---they just don't pass through quickly.

Your serving size was really pretty big (if you had both eggs at once)--and that could be playing into your discomfort considerably.

The prawns, the eggs, and the skins of the tomatoes would all cause a big problem for me. If the discomfort is in the sternum area and it isn't severe pain, chewing about 3 papya enzyme pills helps me. I found them at Walmart. If I am in severe pain in the sternum area from eating one bite too much or getting stuck, I know it won't be long before I have to search for a place because it is going to come back up. Thank goodness I have learned to not let that happen very often.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
