Will this go away?

Recommended Posts

Often, when i'm busy or forget to eat for a couple of hours, I get really dizzy and my legs and hands shake until I eat, yet my stomach doesnt growl. I get so hungry and shakey that I have to stop what I'm doing and eat right then. Will the band stop that feeling, and let it be known that i'm hungry in a less suble way? I know ill probably have to plan my meals but in a case where I cant.

Thanks

These are classic symptoms of hypoglycaemia(low blood sugar). Have you been tested for things such as diabetes?

I cannot see that the band will stop you feeling like this. It will still be important to recognise when you need food and eat appropriately. It is also very important not to let yourself get too hungry as what happens then is that we tend to eat too fast , take bites that are too big , not chew properley and we get stuck which can be painful or at the very least extremely uncomfortable.

It is a good idea to carry a healthy snack in your bag to avoid getting too hungry. What the snack is will depend on what your Dr recommends. I normally have a muesli or nut bar in my bag.

Low blood sugar runs in my family. Preband I had events similar to yours (though more serious light headedness, feeling like you might faint.) I have to say that I have not really had an episode since I was banded. I just had my first fill so after 3 hours or so I start to get hungry (my doctor says at the sweet spot you should be able to go 5 hours without eating). If I exercise in the late afternoon I may need to have a snack; as the time between lunch and dinner could be 7 plus hours (which is really a long time).

Thanks. I've been tested for low blood pressure/glucose...my blood work has always been fine, but i'm almost positive thats whats happening.

I'll talk to my dr. and see what he says. Thank you for the advice :]

I have the same issues, so I carry string cheese's and unsalted almonds all the time.

No, the band will not prevent the symptoms of hypo/hyperglycemia. I was hypoglycemic for decades. Now I'm hyperglycemic. In both cases, I had to eat something every 3 hours to keep my blood sugar stable. Still do.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
