Ok, I haven't lost a single pound in the last two weeks.

I think it's because my body is in stravation mode; I eat and I'm not hungry, but I need more food. I typically make really good food choices and they happen to be low calories. After looking in my food diary, I've discovered that I eat between 600 - 800 calories a day. I need help with incorporating more calories into my diet. My current weight is 266, I lost 41 pounds pre op (June - Aug) on my own by eating 1000-1200 calories and exercising 4 to 5 times a week. The only change has been less calories and I think it's because I cut out eliminated carbs (bread/rice/pasta) from my diet...because it's a "no-no" post WLS.

Here's a sample of what I eat in a day:

Breakfast:

30 liquid Egg Whites 1/4 Cup

25 Kraft Fat Free American Cheesse 1 Slice

80 Morning Star Farm Veggie Pattie 1 Pattie

AM Snack:

120 Trader Joe's Greek Yogurt

Lunch:

150 Homemade chicken Stew (chicken w/ veggies)

60 Jello sugar free pudding

PM Snack:

90 Trader Joe's Sesame Corn Tortilla Crackers 3 pieces

35 Laughing Cow Light cheese

Diner:

100 Trader Joe's Turkey Breast w/peppers 3 oz

24 Heinz Gravy 1/4 Cup

25 Green Giant Mixed Veggied 2/3 cup

What can I do to get in atleast 1000 calories? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

**Edit-Exercise:

My exercise routines have remained consistent. I usually do 1 of the following:

1 Yoga/pilaties (sp) video for 1/2 hour and then walk/jog on my treadmill for 30 - 45 mins

2 Walk/jog treadmill for 30 - 45 mins and then theWii Just dance or EA Sports active for 1/2 hour

2 walk/jog on the treadmill for 45 - 60 mins

I workout 4 to 5 times a week

Thanks in advance!!!!

Well lets see you are eating roughly 729 cals per day so if you add a drinkable yogurt that would add 200 to make it 929 or even add some Protein Shakes with skim or 2% milk. Just an idea :smile2:

I don't think of 2 weeks without loss as a plateau :smile2: I frequently can go 2 weeks, not lose, and then have a big drop. I guess it's just the way I lose. Eat a higher calorie content for a couple of days, then drop back to your normal calories - keeping the body guessing is always a good idea. The change up you can throw at it is your exercise. Add an extra cardio session for 2-3 days in a row - that will also get the scale moving. I run, do elliptical and weights for my exercise. A few weeks ago I took 3 zumba classes (in addition to all the other exercise) and was very pleased with how the scale responded! Adding a nice long walk at the end of the day is also a good way to do that. Good luck!

I agree; two weeks isn't a plateau--not yet.

I am not a believer in "starvation mode." As long as our bodies have fat reserves, they do not starve. And they know it.

I've lost consistently at 800-ish calories a day. I've had a couple of two-week stalls (am in one now), but the loss always resumes. I do NOT lose as well when I increase calories. (If I could, I would!) I'm not suggesting that you shouldn't try to find a caloric level where you are comfortable---just that it may be a faulty assumption that you need more in order to lose.

I've increased the intensity and duration of exercise some over the months, but just can't buy into the "starvation mode" thing. It's a popular theory, but there isn't peer-reviewed research to back it up.

The body just sometimes takes a little time to regroup before resuming loss.

I hit a plateau for a couple weeks and was only getting about 600 calories a day. I decided to add more calories and since then the scale has been moving! I was really discouraged but I'm much happier with 900_1000 calories and lower numbers on the scale. I suggest adding the calories...........seriously, whats the worst that could happen? You can always cut them out if you need to.

Since it sounds like you have good restriciton- you say your not hungry I would try eating some more calorie dense food. You may want to have say chicken sausage instead of turkey or salmon is pretty calorie dense- meats with a higher fat content. That being said, I tend to agree with Betsy that it is kind of myth you go into starvation mode. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
