Those of you that have been banded a while...

I focus on Protein and nonstarchy veggies---for my family, I add a potato (or rice or Pasta or whatever starchy side dish) to basic fare of meat/poultry/fish and veggies and/or salad.

When I make them something like Pasta as a main dish, I pull out some of the meat and sauce and skip the pasta, or I have something else entirely; I do try, though, to have pretty much what they're having (unless I've had a recent fill, in which case, all bets are off, when it comes to solids, for a few days).

I do make Soups and chilis a lot--we all enjoy those. I add bread and/or salad--and skip the bread.

i pretty much have what they are having. that way i don't have to cool 2-3 meals a night. last night they had roast and mashed taters. well roast isn't my friend so i pulled out pasta-less lasagna i had made and put in individual conatiners in the freezer for i had that. then a few nights ago they wanted burgers , baked Beans and fries well we had that but i skipped the fries and added deviled eggs. tonight the kiddos are having spaghetti, hubby is having shrimp scampi with Pasta, i am having the shrimp scampi minus pasta but with steamed broccoli. if they want lets say fried chicken nuggets i will have baked chicken or i will make them eat the baked chicken lol. usually tho if they are wanting something that i can't have i will fix something i want that they won't eat or we will go out to dinner and they get what they want and i get what i want and that way everyone is happy. i also make up menus for 2 wks at a time. i fix things that we can all eat and not just me or not just them. i have changed there eating habits and they are eating healthier (except for the fried foods but they don't bother me anymore). i also make sure the meat is something i can have and the sides i just deal with.

My husband and I eat out a lot and we always split meals. I give him about 2/3 and I take 1/3 of the meal. I eat mostly anything except I do try and leave the bread and Pasta alone. It sure is a lot cheaper now for us to go out to dinner.< /p>

We're in the south and dh was raised on a farm so he's a fried meat and potatoes kind of guy.

I totally hate that. The only meat he will eat that isn't fried is grilled on the charcoal grill.

I'm happy with a chicken breast on my George Foreman grill.

Anyway that's why I'm asking what you guys eat. I need to find an easy compromise for all of us.

I totally hate that. The only meat he will eat that isn't fried is grilled on the charcoal grill.

my hubby would eat fried meat and mashed taters all the time if i let him. yuck!! not crazy about mash taters and never really have been. unless they are made with all the yummy good stuff lol. we do eat baked cod, shrimp and seafood. he's not crazy about chicken on the foreman. i tried that lol and he said he'd cook it on the grill next time. ok knock yourself out lol. he's not real crazy about oven baked fried chicken but he knows if he wants fried chicken that is what he is going to get here. we have to compromise. what does he not like to eat and what does he love to eat?

I eat everything I cook for my family - just a lot smaller portions. Last night I cooked a good Southern meal for my family - pintos, potatoes, country style steak and gravy and cornbread. I ate a spoon full of everything (including a very small slice of cornbread) because I like it and I wanted it. My spoon fulls probably added up to about a cup of food. This seems to be working for me. My one year band anniversary was Aug 24 and I'm down 70 pounds. Still have about 30 to go and it will probably take me another year to get it off but I'm satisfied.

I put the whole family on a diet. They get what I cook, or they can cook something themselves. I can always take some sliced sandwich meat and cheese and make myself a meal. I also make a LOT of weight watchers recipes.

I'm mean that way. :biggrin:

Hmmm, its very varied, we eat very very normally.

Being Australian, we love a barbie! (barbecue) - chops, sausages, steak, chicken, whatever, with salad and potatoes. Roasts - lamb is a favourite. Lots of slow cooker food - stews and casseroles - with rice or mashed potatoes and vegies - I skip most of the rice and potato, we do eat Pasta - bolognaise, lasagne and lately I cant get enough pesto, I've got a real craving for basil pesto lately. We eat a lot of Thai and Indian style dishes too, but i usually cook them, not take away.

I eat anything and everything, just like a normal person.

That's not mean I'm thinking of doing the same thing:)

Dh likes grilled skin on chicken breast, or deep fried chicken. He will occasionally eat shake and bake but very, very occasionally. He likes bone in ribs and pork chops deep fried or grilled. He doesn't like them baked at all. Are you seeing a trend here? LOL

I have a great recipe for a rotisserie chicken. I love it and you know what? He hates it:(

He also likes Chuck Roast with gravy. Basically everything has to be grilled, fried or covered in gravy and I'm not into grilling right now b/c I don't have the time to. You know what's worse? Most of the time he doesn't even eat supper until 9 pm. I'm ready to cook and eat by 7 at the latest so I feel like I'm cooking to cater to him and then he's not even eating it until it's cold. It's aggravating all the way around.

I love Pasta. I read, I think on here, to eat the sauce over grilled vegetables. I cut up squash, onions, mushrooms, eggplant, greenpepper (any vegetable you can think of) a small amount (very small) of olive oil, spice of your choice and bake at 425 for about 20-30 min. Then I put my sauce on this. It is amazingly good and I don't miss the Pasta that everyone else is eating.

It is even good warmed up. I doesn't get stuck or anything.

Let's see.. what do I fix for the family and me?

Saturday: Stuffed Poblano peppers. (took 90/10 grnd sirloin, browned with onions, mixed with quinoa, bell peppers, Tomato sauce..use this to stuff the peppers, which were cut in half long ways). Some sort of veggie.. probably broccoli as we love it.

Sunday was "Beer Can Chicken" and a huge pan of stir-fried squash, zucchini, garlic & onions. The stir-fry was done using spray Olive Oil Pam.

Monday I went to support meeting, so wasn't home for supper. I don't know what the family ate. (my kids are college students living at home, so they're capable of feeding themselves.)

Tuesday: Baked Catfish, Steamed Broccoli, carrots, cauliflower

Wed: Spaghetti sauce made with 93/7 grnd turkey. Whole wheat Pasta, tossed salad. I had my sauce over grated Zucchini. The rest of the family had the Pasta. I think I might have tasted 3 noodles.

Tonight: Leftovers.. DD & DH had 'sketti. I had a big snack at 5pm of mango chipolte salmon & wasa crackers & a handful of baby spinach and I'm not hungry again yet. DS isn't home from college yet.. so I don't know if he'll want chicken, stuffed peppers or will have spaghetti.

I very rarely fix rice or pasta.. when I do it's wild or brown rice and whole wheat or dreamfield's pasta.

I basically cook low fat, low carb and if the family doesn't like what I provide, they know where the Cereal is.

tonight we had Breakfast. they ate toast, bacon and scrambled eggs and i made myself a ham and cheese omelet. was very good too! :biggrin:

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

      Woohoo! I have 7 more days till surgery, So far I am already down a total of 20lbs since I started this journey.
