Afraid to move to reg. foods due to gain???

Recommended Posts

I have been banded a month. I have tolerated most everything I eat, but I find myself SO afraid to start eating things other peaches/cottage cheese, cream of wheats, simmered chicken breast, cheese sticks, etc. I actually ate pretty well before surgery and gained the majority of my weight and kept it on due to depression meds. So now, when I think about eating, I get anxious.

Anyone else?

You are not alone. I did move to regular food and I gained back 6 lb. So I also stopped eating it. I went back to more dietty food. Its normal as we are not filled yet.

Everybody is different. Try to put the fear away and make healthy choices, and watch your portions. You should be fine. Even if you do gain a little, you are making better decisions for yourself, you will be healthier. Eventually the weight will start coming off. Try not to worry about it, because your body needs the regular, healthy food.< /p>

kab1278:

You need to try to let your body run its natural course. Start eating but be very mindful of WHAT your eating as well as HOW MUCH of it your eating. Stick to Vitamin enriched foods and stay away from anything preserved or with high amounts of sugar, fat, sodium. From now on you must start to be mindful of everything youre eating. for the first couple of weeks if it helps keep a journal of what youre eating. It might help you see what youre doing RIGHT or WRONG.

Good Luck

I had my first fill yesterday. Prior to that when I moved to solids I was very carefully measuring the Protein with a digital scale. I did not gain but my loosing was severly diminished. I told the nurse I was irritated that I had hit a plateau and thought I was actually not eating enough. She said everyone plateaus.

Also my doctor said in solids that the veggies should only be 1/4 of a cup. When making dinner I realized the sweet potato (which they recommended) was a lot more than that so I have been cutting them in half.

As hokey as it seems using a sandwhich plate really helps me eat less. Using a real plate kind of depresses me becuase I feel like I hardly got to eat anything.

Thanks everyone!

I knew ahead of time that this would be a life changing, forever process, but of course, once you are actually in it, you realize all that that means. There are so many dietary questions I didn't know to ask, and all I have are a few copied sheets from my dietician, so I feel pretty lost in decisions.

I looked at a few cookbooks for people after bariatric surgery, but the recipes aren't for everyday use...expensive ingredients, 4 portions from a single recipe...things like that. But I'll get it!

Anxiety be damned!

Thanks again!!!

The weight you gain from solid food will not be a fat gain--it will be related to the fact that solid food creates bulk in the intestine.

Really, there's no sense getting worked up about the weight of this matter. It's...well, just shit.

You need solid food. liquids bypass the band, defeating its purpose.

Your caloric intake will remain low. You will lose weight. Will there be a brief temporary upward blip? Sure. There's a good chance there will. But it's...just shit. And you will cope with it, and then you will watch how your good food choices still promote loss---because your body will, in fact, lose fat even if your colon houses some waste.

It'll be okay--really.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
