First fill today feeling a little defeated.

Recommended Posts

Okay so today was my first fill. My band is holds apparently 11 CC's. They had this chart containing three lists of statements; basically needs fills, possible fill/sweet spot, overfilled. Well this was my first fill so I clearly needed one (Ended up getting 4CC).

What frustrated me was the Nurse Practitioner said "So you can eat more than a total of 4 oz per meal (total not just protein)." To which I responded "Well Yeah, I haven’t had a fill yet". And "You can't go five hours without being hungry. Again Yes. Perhaps I am being to sensitive but I kind of felt like I was failing. She asked if after I eat the measured out meal if I could still eat. I told her yes but after a few minutes I could convince myself I wasn’t that hungry.

She also asked if I was having Snacks and I said perhaps once a day I would have a greek yogurt or sugar free pudding.

(sometimes have yogurt before going to the gym as lunch and dinner tend to be far apart.)

Isn’t that the point of the band. To get fills and have some help with the hunger?

I told her that I wondered if I wasn’t getting enough calories; to which she said "We don't count calories.". Well I am at around 800-900 calories a day and doing an hour of cardio. She said plateauing happens but I wonder if my metabolism slows down the less I eat.

Grr just needed to vent.

please don't feel discouraged at all!!! my dr doesn't count calories either and when I go in for a fill I get asked the same six questions every time. and it takes time to feel restriction. I have had four fills (and one very small unfill due to inflimation from a pill...ouch!) and I finally am feeling restriction. as far as a plateu let me tell you my experience with this. I was doing p90x every day and also walking 45 min every day....and I lost 1 pound the whole month! I was so ticked! the next month I lost 18....and was doing the same amount of food and exercise. it takes some time for your body to understand what you are doing....and then bam! the lbs will drop. also, don't go by just the scale....how are your clothes fitting? the month I lost 1 lb I also lost one whole pant size!

hang in there and continue the good work!

Don't let the questions bother you. They are just determening if you need a fill. I get asked the same questions from a nurse, and then the surgeon before he does a fill. Don't feel discouraged if you don't feel restriction yet, it took me 3 fills to feel any kind of restriction. Good luck on your journey!

800-900 a day is NOT reasonable. That is NOT enough calories. Some people go on 1200 calorie diets, and those are for those who are sedentary. I eat 2000-2300 calories a day and I burn between 3000-3300 calories a day, and I lose weight. I lose around 2 pounds a week, which is perfect!

You're not getting enough to eat and that is why you're not losing weight. As for sugar free pudding, there is nothing nutritional about it, unless you add Protein powder in it. Why not an apple, orange, carrots, etc as a snack?

I agree with Manda. Studies prove that women who eat 1200 calorie diets lose weight more steadily and more weight long term than those eating less.

I eat about 1200 calories per day and I'm losing about 2 pounds per week. Then again I'm not exercising so I probably could eat more...or lose more...if I'd exercise. ;-p

I eat every 2.5 hours so have no clue if I could go 5 hours without getting hungry.

I only bought the sugar free pudding cups because they were on the mushies section of the diet they gave me. I have only been on solids for about a week which is why I still have them. I have started to add in fruit (when I moved to solids).

When I moved to solids I was supposed to not have Snacks any more (which I was allowed during the mushie stage). So I though 60 of pudding would be a compromise of having 100 fruit.

The solids diet says to have 3 ounces of solid Protein and 1-2 veg/starch (greenbeens, Tomato, sweet potato).

Sample day

Breakfast fruited greek yoghurt with Protein Powder (200 cal)

OR

2 egg whites 1/8 cup cottage cheese, 2-3 strawberries (200 Cal)

lunch

Shredding chicken (made laughing cow cheese really good)

small tomato, romain lettuce 200-250

OR

chicken breast with salsa 1/8 cup low fat cheese, half sweet potato

dinner

Salmon (packaged 4 oz living on the edge) half sweet potato

OR

Chicken breast, half sweet potato

Grapes

250-300

snack

sugar free Popsicles

While I do have a sedentary job I do an hour of cardio a day; and try to go out after work and walk through stores to move around.

Based on my exercise and the calories I'm eating and not having restriction I have not been that worried about the occational pudding snack.

I'm in the "you're not eating enough crowd" here.

I don't count calories per se but I estimate I am getting 1,500 to 1,800 most days. I do have my 900 calorie days but those are not the rule.

Think of your metabolism as a bon fire. You can't get a good fire burning with just kindling. You need to throw a few good size logs in once in a while.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
