Holy fill! What do I eat now??

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I was banded on May 28th. The first two months, my diet was very unrestricted. I had a 2cc fill in July that basically did nothing. (I already had 1cc in my band.) But last Friday, I got three more cc's and now I cannot eat anything. I've lost a pound/day (water weight, I'm sure). But everything I eat hurts! The only thing that hasn't hurt so far was grapes. Even my salad hurt! Of course, I took small bites and chewed religiously. Is this normal? What should I be eating that won't hurt?!

Wow...3cc at once is a lot. It may be that you're just swollen. Assuming you can still get liquids down, I would try doing nothing but liquids and/or slurries (like watered down cream of wheat) for a few days because every time you eat something that hurts, you're probably aggravating the situation.

After 2-3 days, try eating a bite of solid food. Take a very small bite, chew thoroughly. If that still gets stuck you might want to contact your doctor for a slight unfill.

If you are having trouble with liquids, contact your doctor immediately.

Ditto Elfie. Eat mushies, very soft stuff for now. Cream of wheat, cottage cheese, maybe very soft egg salad.

I had another cc put in with my existing, and I notice a big difference too. I really have to watch what I eat and make sure I take really small bites and chew a lot. Sometimes it still gets lodged a little. It's all a learning curve still.

Also try some hot tea before your meals. Hot coffee or warm Water with lemon also works.

The warm Fluid tends to loosen the band a bit.

I agree- as long as you can keep down liquids I would give ita few days. If protien shakes give you trouble, try watering them down. It has helped me get passed the few days after a fill. Feel better!

Mine was exactly the same way after my last fill, a month ago. It has gotten a little better, but I really am loving the restriction I have now. I still can't eat salad, and from what I understand lettuce can be a problem for some people. I really have been foucusing on getting my Protein from the shakes. I really have poblems with any type of bread, eggs, lettuce, and everything has to be in really small bites and chewed a million times.

Dont try raw carrots even if you chew them to death.I had my first pb episode with them today.Bad and stupid idea.

Try boiled zucchini squashed with lemon and lime and cottage cheese.Or my favorite scrabled eggs with squashed tomatoes, basil and mozzarella. And stay away from carrots

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
