Losing Hair

Recommended Posts

I have now lost probably more than half my hair and I had sort of thin hair to start with. I was on vacation for a few weeks, and when I returned I frightened my grand daughter. She thought I was taking chemo treatments.

I don't know what to do. I've been drinking 2 Protein Shakes a day, plus, meat cheese and whatever else I can get in that has Protein in it. It's coming out so fast lately. I only have to scatch my head for it to fall out. I ran a pick through it and the pick was full of hair.

I've been taking 5 1000mcg tabs of Biotin every day for months. I'm guessing it doesn't work. I've had plenty of surgeries and this has never happened before.

People tell me it's probably stress, but I wasn't stressed out till my hair started falling out. Now I'm wearing a hat every day. Hate wigs, they are so hot and uncomfortable.

Did Anyone have this problem?? If so, did your hair come back??

I've seen a lot of posts on here about thinning hair, but I don't think I read any posts about it being this bad. Anyone else been mistaken for a chemo patient?

Carol

Mine wan't as severe but was noticible. It was reccommended to me to switch to a liquid Vitamin because you absorb more. I would also recommend going to your doctor and having blood work done. Perhaps it's your thyroid?

I'm going through the same thing right now except for once in my life I'm glad my hair is very thick, no one has noticed yet but I fill my pick up everyday and my shirts are covered with hair. I'm taking a chewable multi Vitamin and zinc, its hasn't gotten better or worse. Talk to your doctor you may need B12 shots.

I lost maybe 40% of my hair and was freaked out by it too. I started taking Biotin well before the hairloss started.... I don't think it helped. When the hairloss started I tried everything, and I do mean everything.

I took multi vits., nioxin vits., biotin, B-12, silica, used nioxin Shampoo & conditioner, even rogain. Nothing helped. Thank goodness the hair started growing back in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
