Hi Guys,

I'm in a bit of a conundrum. I had a new fill 4 days ago and am having real difficulty. I've been able to eat whatever after all my fills so far, but not this one. I've tried to eat fish, homemade pizza, plain chicken, wet chicken, mashed patato and scrambelled eggs. The only thing I could keep down was the fish, and even then there was a huuuge amount of pain. I've been taking tiny tiny bites, and chewing a million times. liquid goes down if I take really small sips.

Can anybody give me any advice - is this what the "sweet spot" (or "green zone" as my doc says) is supossed to be like? I'm not hungry, for the first time since the op, but I never thought it would be this bad. I want to get an unfill, but I don't know if this is how it's meant to be and I just hadn't expected it to be so painful and hard...? Do you guys have loads of things you can't eat??

Thank you!

I think the "sweet spot" has different meanings for different people. For me, I want to be able to eat almost anything (but in a small quantity), not get stuck and not be hungry for 3 hours or so. The way you feel now, is not what you want. Yes, you will lose weight quickly, but then you will start eating soft foods all the time and you won't lose anything. I think your idea to have a small unfill is spot on.

Now....your fill was just 4 days ago. I'd give it 2-3 more days before getting the unfill. Sometimes after a fill, I'd swell up for a week. Then the swelling would go done and that fill was great. When I had less restriction the swelling only lasted about 24-48 hours, but later on it really was a week.

Good luck,

Cindy

If you are able to stay hydrated I say ride it out a bit longer. After I reached my sweet spot I was very tight for 2 weeks then things went well.

If you're having pain with eating dense but tender Protein, you are probably too tight.

I'd back off to liquids and/or soft (mushie) foods for a few days then try the dense/tender Protein again.

IF then you are still having pain, call your doctor for a small unfill. Something as little as .2cc's can do wonders.

I had to have .2 removed in May and it helped immensely..in fact, I had to push fluids for a little while to get past hunger that that much removal did. But I really needed the unfill.. I was hurting too much with food.

One trick I found to work for me while I was waiting for the unfill was to drink hot tea right before each meal. I've even been known to sip hot tea DURING the meal when too tight. I know it's not recommended, but you do what you gotta do when you're hurting.

Hope you feel better soon.

I got a fill on this past Thursday and until yesterday I was having some problems. I was only able to eat a little bit and even drinking made me really full, but today I am good and this fill is the best one I have had so far! I thought I would have to go get some taken out because it was also causing some reflux but that went away also. Oh yea, it was causing my sinus to drain a lot which was weird but that left yesterday too. Good luck!

Thanks so much for your help guys!!

I think I will wait another day or two then. The problem is that I can't eat anything (not even soft things), and the one thing that can go down (fish) still hurts. Is it normal to have really intense pain down in your stomach after swallowing a tiny bite??

Been there, done that...and waited way to long to go back. As long as you're getting liquids down you're safe to wait a little while but within a week or so you should be able to tolerate soft/mushies and from there advance, if not, then it's time for a tweak. And no, you should have pain from swallowing one small bit of fish. Possibly you're irritated from the foods you've tried to eat so things are even more swollen than they would be just from the fill...creamed Soups and mashed up Beans thinned out with chicken stock are my staples when I get like that.

Good luck!

At four days out, it may be too soon to tell how the fill will ultimately work for you. Especially since you seem to have had some difficulty that likely exacerbated swelling.

If you can keep liquids down, you don't have to worry. What I'd do is stick with those for a few days, to let things calm down, then gradually ease back in to food. Once the swelling has had time to calm, you can better assess how the fill will work for you.

May I ask how many CC's are in your band? I have 3ccs and am getting a fill of 2ccs tomorrow and wanted to see how many you have that you are feeling tight. Thanks!

Hey guys,

I called my doctor yesterday (after 5 days of pain) and she suggested having .5 taken out. So I have, but if this is too little restriction we'll try .2 again in a week or two. Crazy what a different so little makes!

BeachBabe - I had 6.5cc, but now have 6. Until my fill to 6.5 I hadn't noticed much restriction, then suddenly there was this massive change!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
