Healthy Snack Suggestions/Mushy phase

Recommended Posts

I will be banded 10/2 - I realize I will be on Clear Liquids, full liquids, mushy and eventually real food after a month or so.

Can you give me some suggestions to make the mushy stage more tolerable? I am a nurse and just keep thinking about all the pureed food I have fed patients. It used to make me gag.

Also, can I get some healthy snack suggestions?

Much appreciated

Gracie

I ate things like refried Beans, mashed potatoes, chunky Soups (at first I ran Soups through the blender, then as I got more comfy & brave.. I didn't).

Didn't your doctor or dietitian or nutritionist give you any guidance?

Healthy Snacks that I eat are: organic apple & weight watcher's string cheese. Wasa Cracker & laughing cow cheese. Non Fat greek yogurt & blueberries. non or low fat cottage cheese & strawberries. boiled egg. PB2 on a Wasa.

One of my favorite things was boiling a potato and then adding veg. broth to thin it out and then cheese for Protein. You can do it with cauliflower also or both together. I still make it on the day I get a fill. I was and still am in love with the cook and serve choc. pudding--fat free/sugar free if you can find it. Most markets have the instant but the cook and serve tastes great with some lite cool whip. I would have half a cup a day. It's about 80 calories and then you have the protein from the milk. Of course cottage cheese/greek yogurt are really good sources of protein. Poached eggs are easy to eat also. Slip in a Protein Shake everyday for added measure.

Good Luck!

At first I ate refried Beans with cheese, mashed potatoes, mashed cauliflower, but than after a few days I ate alot of chicken salad...I would buy the roasted chickens at the grocery store that are already cooked, pull off the breast meat and mix with a little mayo than puree..not to make it really runny just really small pieces..and I lived off that for days..lol....some people might not be able to handle it on mushie stage but I was fine and had no issues! was a nice change from all that pureed stuff.

OCCASIONALLY you can find someplace with Soup that's okay for mushies. You may be able to piece together something like Soup and potato (baked or mashed) but I think most restaurants aren't real mush friendly. Sorry. On mushies I lived off of refried Beans thinned out with chicken broth then pureed with salsa and a little sour cream, I still do this when I get a fill. I also did a fair amount of greek yogurt (I'll only eat the honey or caramel, I can't stand the fruit flavors for some reason). As I progressed I did ham or chicken salad either grated finely or pureed until it could be spread and had no chunks with a little mayo and boiled egg whites spread on crackers (once allowed of course). I think I was so thrilled to be off liquids I could have stayed on pureed/mushies forever...pre-op I thought this stage would be the worst, post-op it wasn't so bad.

Good luck!

You crack me up...from one nurse to the other..I have the same thoughts...I have no answers though. I have tried several "experiments" in my kitchen, but unfortunately it went to our dog. My nutritionist suggested baked sweet potatoes oatmeal that has been properly thinned... They really focused on just the first 2 weeks with my first session which will be liquids only....One of my friends ate baby food...eeek! I gag when I think about it!

I did the chicken salad, just ate small spoon bites of it or wrapped in lettuce sometimes.

I also made ham salad. Lean ham chunks in food processor to chop really fine (almost puree), do the same with a few slices of bologna, mix in some of that cheese pimento spread for flavor, little bit of mayo and some pickle relish. It's filling to eat a few spoonfulls of it also.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
