My Port has flipped

Recommended Posts

my nurse said mine si flipping but, she is still able to get the needle in at just the right place. they said it may be due to fast weight loss and the muscle shrinking they aren't sure, but they most certainly do flip.

I had surgical revision of my port a week afo after it flipped. It was in the hospital and I was put into a twilight sleep but not general anesthesia, then they used local anesthesia at the incison site.

Do you know if the mesh was placed over the back side of the port? Mine has a patch of mesh that will cause scar tissue to grow and hold it into place. My doctor apparently was the first to do this in response to port flipping.

No, I just had the surgery last week. I was told that my doctor kinda pioneered the whole mesh thing so that the port would have a really hard time flipping over a period of time due to the scar tissue holding it in place. He does it for everyone the first time. I hope you get it resolved quickly and painless.

Thanks. Unfortunately I am having more pain with this revision than I did with the original surgery. I am 8 days post op and I am still having a tiny bit of drainage also.

How is it going for you?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
