4 day post op and running a fever

Recommended Posts

I was baned on the 14th and yesterday I woke up with a fever of 102.2. I felt awful. I went in and had a ct scan, The MD stated that I had a touch of pneumonia:cursing:. Did any one else get pneumonia after surgery? When did you go back to work? I am so excited to be on the path to recover. I look forward to doing it with you all.

Its a normal post-op health issue with sensitive people. You lay down naked almost 1,5 hours. Its normal. I am glad its not because of your wound being infected.

Were you sick before the surgery? Did you have a runny nose or cough?

No I was fine before surgery, I felt great. But after thinking about they had a hard time getting me a room after surgery so the kept me on a bed in a flat position for 8 hours. I complained of chest pain when I took a deep breath in the hospital and they told me it was gas pain. But now I know what was really going on. Well at least I'm feeling better now

From what they told me when I was in the hospital it seems to be a pretty common thing for people to come down with pneumonia after surgery.

They wanted me to take something to prevent it when I was being discharged but it would have taken them another hour to get the meds so I passed. I had already stayed overnight and waited all morning for them to release me I was ready to be out of there.

I hope you feel better soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
