Dr. Robert Pinnar

Recommended Posts

I have searched the forums but haven't found many recent posts about experiences with Dr. Robert Pinnar. Has anyone gone to him recently? I have my initial consultation with him on Tuesday and do not know what to expect. I'm not sure how long it will take and the various things that will be addressed. The drive to his office is about an hour each way for me so I want to try and reduce the # of times I have to make it!!

Any help is greatly appreciated  Even if you had your surgery done by him a while ago, I would love to hear about your experience!

Thanks in advance!!

He will be doing my surgery 10/21 (been resched a few times due to illness). I tried as hard as I could and couldn't find anything negative about him. I thought he was very nice and he made me very comfortable. As w/any lap band office I guess-consider how you feel about his physician assistant (Paul) and the nurse (Sue). You will really only be seeing them so how you click w/them is important. You wont actually meet the doctor on your first visit..just Paul.

I would love to hear what you think of them!

Good luck:)

Thank you for your response! Congratulations on your surgery date . Hopefully I won't be too far behind you! I guess I'm just not sure what to expect on the first visit. Will they weigh me, do blood work and discuss any other appointments that I might need to satisfy my insurance requirements? The receptionist said the appointment will be about an hour...

I would like to keep in touch with you!!

My 1st appointment was a sit down across a desk w/Paul. No weight or any medical check of any kind. You watch a video on a monitor on his desk, he goes over some information and then you can ask questions. We went over lots procedure pros & cons, options as far as hospital vs surgery center, costs and general stuff. I was a little taken back that I didn't meet the Dr but then realized most people have a group consult and at least mine was private.

The next visit was w/Sue. Went over everything as far as diet, what to expect, additional testing needed (psych, blood tests, barium swallow). Met Dr briefly at end. He did ask if I had questions & was very friendly..but by that time all of my questions were pretty much answered.

Thanks for the info! I was hoping that there would be a little more to the 1st appointment. Oh well. I guess I'll find out everything tomorrow!

Dr. Pinnar was great. I met him and Sue. I didn't have a chance to meet Paul, though. Sue and I must have talked for at least 45 minutes. She was great. Sue weighed me and Dr. Pinnar did a quick exam. Sue also called my insurance company the next day and got the approval! Now I'm just waiting on the official letter.

Great! The appointment went a totally different way with me (as I mentioned). This appointment went the way my 2nd one did..the actual meeting the dr and all. I am glad you liked them. So, are you decided? Abut both the surgery and the doctor?

BTW, what is your BMI?

Hey there-just bumping this up because I was really curious if you were going ahead w/the band and/or w/dr pinnar. I saw your bmi was 35. mine is 31 so we are both low bmi bandsters as well.

i would also love to keep in touch as well :smile2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
