I can eat the bread, but a few bites in and I am done---no more than 2 inches of a 6" sub. I do it on occasion when everyone is going there---but I usually will try to do something without that much bread---just because it fills me up so fast, without being of any nutritional value.

Much better for me to fill that space with veggies or something healthy than the bread.

But there are those days it is just exactly what I want!!! And I love having the ability to eat some of it to satisfy that, and go on, and know I did not wolf down an entire sandwich! The first few bites are the ones with the taste satisfaction anyway, and we get those!!!

Good Luck to you. I agree, if you want to maintain a diet similar to what you ate before, beware of going too tight.

I love subway, I eat it all the time. I usually get a 6 inch chicken with all the veggies even spinach. I make two meals out of it. I also take the top of the bread off, I do that with all my sandwhichs when I eat them. Like once a month I make a pb&j sandwhich (my weakness) and just use one piece of bread folded I usually can only eat half of that. You just have to find what works for you.

I have been dreaming about subway....I ate there 2 - 3 times a week! But that mostly was a whole foot long-ham/turkey mmmm. Now I think if I even tried I would only get a 6 inch and cut it in half. I have had salads already and can get thru the veggies...love em. Maybe I'll experiment and take one half bread off when I eat. They do have the flatbread but I think it's more calories.

Maybe try the wraps instead? I think you can make any sandwich a wrap.

I'll only eat the 6grams of fat or less ones, a bit of ham and turkey, no cheese and lots of salad with salt and peper. Under 300 calories, under 6 grams of fat and very filling even with an empty band.

The rest of them, I loathe, all that sweet onion teriyaki slimy crap, the meatballs just look disgusting I wouldnt dare to eat them, ick. It just doesnt appeal to me. But I like that you get a reasonable sized sandwich, unlike the sandwich places in the food court that give you seven pieces of cheese and half a cow on your sandwich so that the calorie content must be sky high, even in a healthy Protein and salad sandwich.

I'm so glad I found this post. I actually haven't been banded yet but i'm due to be on the 25th and i've been wondering about subway. I get the salads sometimes anyways so I would be so fine with eating a salad with the subway fixings. =) woot.

I eat wraps sometimes, not subs--too uncomfortable with all that bread! I could manage a bite or two at the most. I watch my husband eat a whole sub once in a while, and think "That would make me feel like I was dying!" I miss sandwiches with big, thick slabs of bread sometimes, but not enough to regret having the band and being thin and healthy.

What kind of wrap do you use?

I ordered a Subway turkey on wheat bread the other day since I was in a meeting and the boss was buying them for all of us. I was really concerned about how I would manage to eat it, but I solved the problem easily. I took the think top piece of bread off and then folded the bottom piece in half and it was perfect!! I was able to eat most all of it that way. I have not had my first fill yet and may not be able to do that after I have one.

I am learning that this whole process is a learning process. Is interesting what works for some and not for others.

Good luck to all of you.

Has anyone tried having their bread toasted for their sandwiches? I would think that would make it easier to go down.

I won't be banded until Oct 13, so I can't speak to the effectiveness of this.

Try the flat bread it is good and not as thick as regular bread is and it taste so much better. I eat a 6 inch turkey with tomatoes, lettuce, pickles, green peppers, cheese usually toasted and it is so yummy and I am so full by the time I am done. But I walk to my subway store to get the sandwich and walk home.

I generally do really well with Subway. I can usually eat about half of a six-inch. I don't put too much stuff in the bread though, so it may sound like a lot, but it probably isn't.

The only thing I struggled with was the bread. It took me a few separate tries to get it right. I find that toasting helps so it doesn't stick together so much and clog up the hole in your pouch. But as long as you take your time and listen to your body, you should be good. :) Just make sure you really chew that sandwich or you will regret it later. If it doesn't work well the first time, you can always try again later like I did. Just make sure it's not too soon. You don't wanna stress out anything. :)

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
