New Biggest Loser 9/21 - Lapband Failure Contestant

Recommended Posts

There is a new biggest loser contestant that had the lap-band surgery. I wonder what is her story??

I think this line pretty much says it all:

" and lap-band surgery wasn't the miracle cure she was hoping for."

Nope-- it's not a miracle cure, and people who go into it thinking it is are much more likely to fail. I don't typically watch the Biggest Loser, (because I don't think the program is good for morale, and I think it goes about weight loss the wrong way-- dangerous even)-- but I might have to tune in to see how they portray her and her surgery.

I think now that they are doing some follow ups, it's a more realistic view of what the contestants have achieved, and what is necessary to keep it off. Some of the contestants have seen "The Biggest Loser" as the magic pill, only to find that once they reach goal, they need to continue this way of life, just like us banders do. None of it is easy, the plan is simple, the actions require dedication.

I so agree with you.

I love watching the Biggest Loser. It will be interesting to see how they portray the lapband surgery. One season they had a guy on there who had gastric bypass and they didn't dwell on it too much.

Hey Spoiltmom,

I saw you over on another forum, and rcognized you! I said hi, but it looks like you have not been there in a while. (thinner times, or OH) I go to about three different forums or is that four? Don't know! But there is something you can learn from each one!

A couple of seasons ago, they had a "failed" gastric bypass on--and didn't dwell on it at all. It was mentioned at the beginning, but not much after.

He did really well on the show.

I'm looking forward to the new season.

That show is the greatest guilty pleasure. I suspect it will be even more fun to watch now that I'm not the size of all the participants. If I were on the show and were competing against someone with a band it might bother me a little. Even the tiniest bit of restriction is a help, right? For some people it's not? In other words, I'm also curious about how they position it.

Her biography explains why she was not successful.

She thought it was a miracle cure and she has bad habits that she was afraid she was passing on to her Son.

She is probably very busy working with Bey , traveling on the road and does not have time to plan and eat proper meals among other factors.

I hope that she or the show does not go on about how WLS is not a viable option.

I like the Biggest Loser though I know it is very unrealistic. Who the heck can work out 7-8 hours a day to keep their weight in check?

I looooooooveee! the biggest loser! I watch it every season!!! I even work out during the commercial breaks! It's totally motivational to me! I even tried out for the show in Dallas last year! It was so fun!!! To see all the people like me and the stories while waiting in line was amazing. I will never forget that experience.

Did you notice that there are a total of 5 contestants that have had "lapband, vertical band or bypass (1) failures"?

Good grief - that doesn't put things in a pretty positive light :)

I guess it goes to show people - it really isn't the easy way out - you still have to work hard at losing the weight - it doesn't just fall off of you.

Gee, I don't want to see the negative stories..lol...I can't accept the fact that lapband wouldn't work for me...depressing...I dont get into the biggest loser too much...but I think I didnt cause before the band I always thought it was a reminder of what I should be doing (as I ate my bag a chips watching it) but maybe I would see it in a different light now that I am banded..might tune in!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
