cclay 0 Posted December 10, 2005 Lately I am waking up at night, choking from liquid backing up in my throat. I have aspirated some of this liquid into my lungs. I haven't had an adjustment in months so nothing has changed as far as my fills go. I am losing sleep over this. I am sleeping on an incline but nothing seems to help. Can anywho help me with this. It really has me worried. I have been banded for 11 months with a 61lb weight loss.
tizag 0 Posted December 10, 2005 Hi, Yes, I had this. Please please please go to your doctor! It can be serious... for me it ended up in having to have my band removed in emergency surgery with severe infection and inflammation. Don't worry, I am sure nothing as drastic is happening with you, but have you get your get band unfilled ASAP. In all honesty, I let this go on for months and months... maybe if I hadn't ignored the symptoms I would still be with my band today. Rememver, even if nothing has changed with you the past few months, something is going on with your band.... Good luck!

It really has me worried. I have been banded for 11 months with a 61lb weight loss. I was up all night with pain and with feelings of things backing up in my throat. I'm sleeping on an incline just like you. No, forget that I said that, I'm not sleeping at all. I was in pain all night from pain from an ulcer and esophagitis, and I don't even have the experience of having the band yet. Now everything is on hold until I heal. I'm no spring chicken so I hope this healing takes place alright. I'm so sorry to hear you are suffering with this experience. I feel your pain even though mine isn't caused from banding. Alexandra 55 Posted December 10, 2005 This can be serious, tizag is right, but it also may be managed. If you've never had it happen before talking to your doctor is an excellent idea. You may be able to get through it with medications, behavioral changes, whatever, but it must be handled. Letting it go on for a very long time can damage your esophagus and more. Can you figure out anything that might have caused this to start? I know that for me, eating anything bready later in the day can be a trigger, as well as nuts after about 4:00 p.m. Also when I'm having an allergy attack and am congested, coughing can make it worse. Ultimately it's important to soothe the tissues and let them heal, while at the same time addressing the causes of your reflux. An unfill can be a magic pill; it solved my problem immediately this past summer. Talk to your doctor and see what he recommends. Good luck!!
Parvathi 2 Posted December 10, 2005 This happened to me when I was overfilled, time before last. I had horrible night reflux and would wake up choking, gasping for air. A small unfill fixed me right up, along with a prescription for reflux, which I now take daily. Haven't had it happen since. Definitely go talk to your doctor though. Hope you feel heaps better soon
