2nd Fill - Too Tight???

Recommended Posts

Just had the 2nd fill today 1.5 cc's in 10cc Allergan Band (on top of 2 cc's one month ago). Wow...what a difference. However, I'm afraid I might be a little too tight and am hoping that the tightness will ease up in a few days. I can drink Water, VERY SLOWLY, it feels stuck for a while and then feels better. I've had the hiccups 2x since the fill this afternoon and now I'm trying to drink a juice type Protein Drink and it's not going down too well. I am going to switch back to water. I'm supposed to stay on Clear Liquids today, pureed tomorrow, then soft/regular the next days. What are the opinions of the experienced bandsters...do you think there is a chance this will ease up a bit or am I headed for a slight unfill? I have not thrown up, but have done a little sliming on the Protein drink which is why I'm going back to water. Needless to say, I hope this eases up on its own because I don't like going backwards, especially as ravenous as I was prior to this fill. Input appreciated!

I am glad today is Monday and you have a couple of days to wait and see if it is temporary band/stomach swelling vs a tad overfilled. As long as you can keep fluids down you have some wiggle room. If it comes to the point where fluids are not staying down you need to call the office. It is a balancing act and if you wait too long and get too tight they may have to take out more so things can rest. It is better to go in and ask for a tiny unfill (like.15 or.2) or just discuss it and see what the doc recommends.

Best wishes,

Mimi

I had my first fill last week and I didnt feel hardley any restriction they gave me 3cc's but today feeling a little for some reason..I have a feeling with my 2nd fill Im gonna feel something like you though...I know how you feel..the first week after surgery I could barley get down Water but ended up finding out they left 2cc's of Fluid in my band during surgery and wasnt suppose to so they took it out and instant relief but than got hungry as hell..I dont think I could go through that discomfort again but at least I know what it feels like..they say it will loosen up in a week or two...

I have had many fills. I was getting 1 cc fills and having a reaction so I went to 1/2 cc fills and using liquid motrin the day before my fill and the next 48 hours. It seem to reduce the swelling and tightness of my band. I am currently at 7cc's. Good luck. I hope this helps.

This morning I can't even seem to do Water. I brewed a cup of Decaf thinking the warm temperature might help, can't do that either. The liquid sits in there and is painful. I'm calling the doctor today and I guess will get an unfill (hopefully small). I don't want this cycle to continue and have to get everything removed! Will post a follow-up later.

been reading all of your posts-I am 12 days post band and schedule for my first follow up visit this Friday. The dr says maybe get first fill, I am what I would consider fairly tight with no fill, had to have a revision the day of the surgery b/c the initial band placement was too tight with no Fluid in it. Even now I can't swallow things such as tuna or chicken salad, mainly soft foods and dr wanted me on solids by now. Why does the dr say liquids 4 hours before and 48 hours after a fill, does a fill cause swelling? I experienced quite a bit of swelling with the surgery.

Aaaaahhhhh....much better  Got .5 taken out today. I was able to swallow Water again immediately and then had a bowl of veggie Soup (mostly broth) for lunch. The surgeon who did my fill was in surgeries today so his PA did my unfill. She did a great job and wanted to go the whole .5. I asked her if we could do .2 or .3 as I was trying to avoid feeling the NO restriction feeling again, but she assured me that it was best to go .5. I was very swollen and got immediate relief. I still felt some restriction with the Soup (probably mostly the swelling) but I'll take it. Being overfilled is miserable! It kinda made bandster hell seem OK. It was a learning experience :) I couldn't even exercise this morning because of the weird feeling in my chest after just 2 sips of water! My next fill is in 5 weeks. She made the observatioin that most people with the 10cc band that I have feel restriction between 4-5 ccs. Maybe the 3rd one will be the sweet spot! I'm at 3 now after the partial unfill, plus maybe a touch more from the priming procedure during surgery.

Kydman - my doc says eat "lightly" the day of the fill, then after - clear liquids only for 24 hours. Then pureed for 24 hours, then soft for 24 hours, then regular food again. I can tell you that with my first fill I had no problems whatsoever. I felt I was pretty swollen from the surgery for only about 3-5 days. After that initial period I didn't necessarily feel hungry, but I could eat a container of yogurt or 4 oz. of cottage cheese, etc. whereas the first couple of days I could only do a couple of bites. I remember thinking that I might not get my first fill as scheduled because I really wasn't hungry. By the time the date rolled around, I felt like I could handle it and did fine. My doc, however, is only 20 minutes away, so I always have an option. I know some folks travel quite the distance to their docs so you have to choose what makes sense for you. One more week into the healing process can make a HUGE difference in how you are feeling :)

OK, I know I'm not too tight anymore, but I must have some pretty decent restriction going on from the swelling, etc. OMG, last night I had a meeting that I was rushing to get to and tried to eat a lean cuisine on my way out the door. The entree had salmon and I could tell that the first bite was a little dry. So I decided I could not "rush" through it and took it with me in the car as I had a 50 minute drive to the meeting. After 3 more bites I ended up pulling over on the side of the interstate to throw up! That was by far the worst experience I've had. I'm going to stick to mushies for the next few days and give myself a chance unswell. I think I'm more swollen than I realized from being overfilled, now a "bad" stuck episode. This band does take some learn'n!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
