probelm with burping

Recommended Posts

I have never had a problem with burping but had my surgery on Friday and now I seem to burp all the time, is this normal. Also my stomach aches ( maybe because of no food) and it could be because of the liquid medication I am taking. Not to mention the fact that I am very sore in the stomach area. I never had too much pain just being sore.

Yes, this seems to be normal. I had my surgery on July 29th and the following day I started burping and hiccuping all the time. The nurse told me it would be temporary but its now September and I'm still doing it. So...not sure its so temporary.

Good luck!

I burp a lot. Usually when I am eating or drinking a protien shake. When I feel like I have to burp but can't I walk around and that often helps.

I don't recall burping alot in the immediate post-op period, but I might have. It's been a while.

Now when I start burping I know I'm starting to get full and better think about not eating any more.

I had pretty bad empty tummy pains though. They wouldn't let me sleep at night. Once I was on thicker liquids/soft foods, I would take a container of yogurt to bed with me at night. When I would wake up with my tummy hurting, I'd eat a spoonful of yogurt.. that would soothe my stomach enough that I could go back to sleep.

I did that all night long. Sleep 2 hours, spoonful yogurt, sleep, yogurt, sleep. Not how bandsters are supposed to eat, but my nurses said it was OK to do to get me through the post-op discomfort.

Hope you feel better soon.

I started burping about three or four days after surgery. At that point I would rather the trapped air came up instead of down! And when it just won't come out, walking around does help along with doing monkey arms. I know it looks silly, but it does help!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
