Prickly port and scar pain 2 yrs out.

Recommended Posts

I woke up yesterday and my port area and scar are kind of prickly painful. It feels like it did when it was healing and scabby.

It doesn't really hurt inside. I haven't thrown up in ages. I'm probably ready for a fill, but I have put it aside.

What could cause this? I start getting myself all in a bunch, b/c I haven't had issues in a longgggg time.

Oh no redness around it either. I feel my port, but it feels like a lump, I can never tell if it's flat or not. It feels normal.

Hi there,

I really wouldn't worry to much about it. I'm two years out and sometimes my scar area just itches like crazy.

Also, sometimes I can feel the port(kinda like you said-lumpy) and sometimes not.

did you maybe do some yardwork or something outside that used your stomach muscles which you dont typically use? Mine will hurt from time to time from raking leaves, stuff like that..

Ok, I'm trying not to freak or anything lol.

It's just really sensitive, like if I lightly run my hand over it, it's a bit painful, like a fresh scab.

No extra workout, it's not an inside pain, it is clearly an outside feel.

I've been too dang gassy lately.hmmm

Thank you all for responding. :(

I have a ton of surgery scars on other parts of my body. I know that constant touching or brushing or rubbing them lightly feels good for a few seconds, but beyond that it starts to HURT like a pinwheel is being run over them or fork tines are being dragged over them or a green scrub pad is being rubbed on me.

So, are you wearing anything new or different? Did you recently change material that comes in contact with that area? I know that anything made out of lace really hurts my scar tissue and some elastics are irritating to me too. Are you wearing pants or skirts that are a little too tight or too loose?

Over the years I have learned to keep my lower back and butt scars covered with nylon or cotton full bottom underwear (granny panties) or I go nutty with the pain of the rougher material of clothing rubbing them and my neck scars never get covered with scratchy collars or any scarves, even silk, or turtlenecks.

My LB incisions haven't healed yet, so I don't know how they will react since the wound closure and healing process is different than anything else I have had before (staples and sutures). Right now my port incision itches like crazy and sometimes I can feel the lump that the port makes.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
