Got the news today of insurance approval!! I have BCBS of IL HMO-Blue Advantange. Been waiting for that news for only 2 months, but the anxiety made it seem like ages. My reaction wasn't what I thought it was going to be because suddenly, the reality hit me and I became a tad nervous - as many of you have described.

Nov. 22 is the day! I don't have a time yet, but hope it is very early. I've been on my 2 week liquid diet since Nov. 8 and am determined that I will not cheat, realizing the bigger picture of a healthier me is all it takes to stay on track. It's not easy, but I will do what it takes!!!

This forum has been so helpful and educational for me and I will continue to visit and post here.

Anyone scheduling at Mercy Hospital in Chicago - on or around the 22nd?

Well tomorrow is my day. Got to be there at 7am for a 8:45am surgery. I am looking forward to this, but still nervous. I just took my first shower with Hyberclens (sp?).

Going to do some updating and then bed.

Good luck everyone else that is being Banded this week! See you over at Post-op tomorrow.

I've made it!! I'm having surgery tomorrow at 10:15. I'm worried though, I had a Vitamin D issue and took 2000 units of Vitamin d3 for a month, but today was the first time I took them in 4 days. I ran out and had to wait till I got paid to buy anything. They havnt called me to tell me if anything is wrong with the new bloodwork so i'm hoping it is fine. I'm on all Clear Liquids today. Good luck to everyone getting their surgeries this week!

My surgery is tomorrow also ... I didn't sleep very well last night I was up every 2 hours. So I suppose tonight I won't get a wink which should help me sleep after the surgery tomorrow.

I have been wondering what my last real meal will be ... still undecided.

Hi,

I'm in England and I'm having my surgery on 27th November. I think I'm probably the oldest bandster here - 62. I'm sticking to the pre-op diet and hoping that the surgery goes well. I am quite scared and very glad to have found this forum. I'll be following all your progress. Good luck everyone. :blushing:

I'm done! Had surgery on the 17th everything went as planned, feeling still some discomfort but it's not that bad. I think after a few more days I'll be feeling fine. Finding it hard to keep up the amount of fluids, because I really dont feel like anything much but doing my best.

People that are feeling nervous, it's okay you will be fine ! Good Luck, keep us all posted :blushing:

I'm Nov 19 too. I have really calmed myself in the last week. Now, I'm not really anxious for having the band, but just for the actual procedure. I don't have much experience with surgery, only my gb out in 1996. My sons were not c-section. I trust my surgeon, so I'll be ok. I'm not even really hungry today, I think the nerves squash some appetite. Good luck to everyone, see you on the other side.

I was banded on the 15th. I am doing pretty good. I still have pretty bad gas pains in my shoulder, but I will deal with it if I can be healthy and an average size!!!!

Beginning weight 266

weight now 254

I was orginally scheduled for the 15th, moved it up to the 1st and finally after 2 appeals I am finally scheduled for the 29th and have everything done and ready to go. It has been a tough battle but I am ready and if I can make it through that and survive I can do anything I put my mind to.

Good luck to everyone! And a big congratulations. I was banded a year ago November 25th will be my one year banniversary and I can hardly believe its been a year! It's gone by sooo fast! Best thing I EVER DID! You will feel shitty after surgery but come around, before you know it you'll be living a regular life and melting away!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
