Itching and pain

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Had my surgery yesterday and went well, except it took them 45 minutes to get the breathing tube in and they also found huge hernia that the doc had to stitch up. Yesterday and today I feel pain, but worse today. My neck, shoulders, legs everything hurts. Also, my tongue is still numb from yesterday, is this normal? The percocet makes me itch so I am not sure if that is normal either. Any advice?

Yup it is normal. Pain killers numb your nerves in your body so when it starts to wear off you feel itchy. Very normal unless you also have a rash. You will be in pain for about a week and then it starts to go away. Good luck with your first week. Take it easy and eventually you will feel 100% normal again.

I know this is going to sounds weird, but they also give you muscle relaxers during surgery, and sometimes as those wear off and your muscles wake up, it will cause extreme muscle pain. In fact, my nurse told me, "Tomorrow, you are going to feel like you were hit by a bus." I was like, "Thanks...good to know!" Just make sure you get up and walk around or stand as much as you can, that is the only thing that helped me, well, that and gas-x. The itchiness may also be caused by the anesthesia wearing off...always gets me.

Thank you so much for the info guys, it helps me alot. I did ask the doc and he did give me muscle relaxers so there you have it. I am in pain, just eating Jello, drinks, Water and chiken broth. YUM, right?:(

Had mind on Friday and today I do feel like I got beat-up. I also have an upset stomach but it may be the pain medication the Dr. gave me to take home. I am counting the days until I feel better. I also feel like "what have I done to myself".
