A New Beginning! =)

Hi Everyone! I am Alisa. I am 23-years-old and I live in Virginia. I have had a bit of a bumpy road since I had my LapBand in 2008 and I decided to join here to share experiences and give as well as receive support from other banders! I know that a lot of the bumps in the road were caused by my own doings, and I am ready to get back on track, so I figured this would be a great place to start! See you around!

Just get back on the wagon and gain the support that you need on this site. I am currently awaiting to hear from my insurance so that I can begin this Band journey..I will be praying for your strength.

Hi, I'm new to all this, and just looking to learn from those who have been there. What kinds of problems did you have, and what would you have done differently?

Thanks!!

Thank you for your prayers! I finally got my fill, and so far it has been going great, so I think I am really going to do it this time around. I will keep you in my thoughts and hope that you hear back from your insurance soon! Good luck!!

Hi, I'm new to all this, and just looking to learn from those who have been there. What kinds of problems did you have, and what would you have done differently?

Thanks!!

I had a lot of problems with getting stuck in the beginning no matter how well I chewed, and it was driving me up a wall. When I saw my doctor he was insistent that I was eating too much, when all I really needed was a slight unfill. I felt really embarrassed after that appointment with him, so I went for my fluoro and had myself unfilled a bit and I never went back I was so upset.

I would have definitely NEVER quit seeing him or I would have at least transfered my care to another doctor so I wouldn't have gotten off track. When I was that embarrassed, I gave up on myself and on the weight loss, which did no good. I am back on track now though, so better late than never, but had I swallowed my pride I'd be a lot farther today!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
