Hard to eat - 6 month out! Whats the problem?

Recommended Posts

Hey all ...

I'm looking for anyone who has experienced what I have been. I have trouble eating ... doesn't really matter what I eat or what time of the day I eat it. I eat and it feel as though it's stuck inside my throat. Eventually I will PB ... because the saliva starts going to get it moved through. I don't get a full feeling, and I think it's because stuff is stuck in my throat. I'm really worried. There was a lady on OH whose esophogas stopped pushing food through. She had to have her band removed and had the DS. I DO NOT want to consider another type of surgery.

My surgeon is new at the band and I am FREAKING OUT!

Kari Jo,

You may need to get some fill removed or go on liquids for a few days. It sounds like your innards are irritated and need some rest. You may even have something stuck. I would call my dr and talk to him today. You don't want this to fester over the weekend. Good luck. Celeste

Thanks ... I did call. I'm going for a Barium Swallow Tuesday. I'm just really freaked about the whole thing. I have had this since the day of surgery ... like I was too tight with no fill. I want the fill out to rest for a while ... I think you're right on with that. Just hope it's nothing more ...

I have had throat issues since 3 wks after banding. At first I thought I had a fish bone stuck in my throat - the er doctor thought it was reflux (which I have never had prior to banding) I took the medicine for reflux - and it never seemed to work.

I went off the meds and over time the situation has got much better - I rarely am bothered with this throat irritation - but SOMETIMES I AM - and it sucks.

Tell me how the medical test goes I am interested in what you find out and what it is like.

Take care - Nancy

I read all your posts. You are a true inspiration to everyone. Just thought I'd let you know that. You seem to have a great attitude. I wish it was contagious instead of being the worry wart I am. I'm not banded but I keep thinking you guys sound like you are choking. That would be a horrible feeling. You would either want to get it down or get it up it seems. Scary a little bit. Again, thanks for the great posts.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
