jasonweinberg 0 Posted September 10, 2010 i just take a multivitamin but my nutritionist does suggest focusing on a high Calcium diet because she says it helps with counter-acting fats in your diet or something..
elcee 3,341 Posted September 10, 2010 I'm female and haven't been advised to take Calcium. I didn't know osteoporosis was an issue after banding, it's not something my surgeon ever mentioned. For us females I think it is more of a concern after the menopause . I do find that since being banded I eat a lot more dairy than I did previously - lots of greek yogurt - so that would probably help.
Jinky 0 Posted September 10, 2010 I'm female and haven't been advised to take Calcium. I do find that since being banded I eat a lot more dairy than I did previously - lots of greek yogurt - so that would probably help. My surgeon insists on the calcium (I am female~~~I'll ask the guys at the support group meeting though). I take 1 Caltrate 600+D+minerals 2X/day. I've been using Calorie Counter Database - Free Online Diet Program , it breaks down everything you eat. Even having yogurt and pudding during weeks 1 & 2 I didn't hit the calcium requirements for the day. I also get weekly B12 shots (My pre-surgical testing showed a deficiency) and daily Multivitamins. My hair has grown 4 inches from this!
TracyNYC 4 Posted September 11, 2010 I take 2 chewable tums w/ Calcium 750 per day. I also have a multi Vitamin and Vitamin D. Though the "D" was suggested by my gyn b/c of my birth control. I am 41 and a bit away from menopause. The calcium was something they tell all patients.
