I'm sorry. I am cracking up right now... of all the posts on this forum this one came out of left field big time!!!

We used to enjoy a wonderful hookah in college... made out of an ocean spray cran-grape bottle with 4 hoses for all of us to share... and we weren't smoking flavored tobacco!!! In fact, my college hookah probably led to munchies that caused at least a 50 lb weight gain! LOL

Oh, memories!!! lol

:blushing::lol::couch2::lol::smile2::lol::cursing::lol::smile::lol:

We had a different word for it, I think it was a BONG. A Hookah was some one who stood on the corner tryin to make a dolla.

:smile::lol::smile::lol::smile::lol::tt1::lol::smile::lol:

no, a bong is just for 1 person... a hookah is a bong that several people can use at once... very social... WOW. Are we talking "water pipes" on lap band talk.com?

One I don't use pot. Two I only do hookah once in a blue moon and not in public places! @ Elcee I am perfectly healthy I am just overweight. I did WLS to lose the weight and avoid getting any medical problems. If I were smoking hookah on the regular than I would say maybe there's a problem but its not the case.

no wonder i didnt know what it was.... who says that there is a time limit on smoking? I dont smoke anything but wonder why you would have to wait to do it.....

Smoking raises your blood pressure and the chemicals you inhale in the smoke can prohibit healing or cause blood clots.

It's definitely best to avoid smoking a month in advance and a month following surgery.

I don't smoke hookers[sic] but I do smoke and know I have to stop for surgery.

Now that made me LOL....a deep belly laugh....

and hookah is NOT necessarily pot....it could definitely be flavored tobacco,,, but in college, I was really good at rigging a 2 liter bottle. But that was a long time ago and not any more.

LAS CRUCES - Smoking tobacco is an extremely dangerous activity that causes numerous health problems including heart disease, several respiratory illnesses and lung cancer. There is no safe way to smoke tobacco, including using a hookah.

A hookah, also known as a narghile, shisha or hubble-bubble, is a waterpipe of Middle Eastern origin that is used to smoke sweet, often flavored, tobacco. The smoke is filtered through Water in the base of the hookah's pipe. Proponents of smoking tobacco say the smoke is safer because the smoke is filtered through Water and the tobacco does not contain all the chemicals that are found in a cigarette. That is simply not true. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization, smoke from a hookah contains many of the same harmful and carcinogenic components as cigarette smoke.

Some of the chemicals that are found in tobacco smoke are tar, carbon monoxide, and nicotine. There is no evidence to suggest that the smoke filtered through the water of a hookah pipe reduces the amount of chemicals that are inhaled. Hookah smoke is less irritating to the throat, but that only encourages people to inhale the smoke deeper into their lungs.

Smoking tobacco from a hookah can be even more dangerous that cigarettes in many cases because of the amount of smoke that is inhaled. A recent study from the National Cancer Institute found that hookah users spend approximately 45 minutes inhaling smoke

in a single session, which can involve more than 100 instances of inhaling smoke. On average, cigarette smokers inhale 10 times while smoking. Each puff from a hookah also contains more than 10 times the amount of smoke than the average cigarette. The bottom line is hookah smokers inhale about 100 times more of the harmful smoke than a cigarette smoker. That is not to say cigarettes are a safe alternative. Smoking tobacco in any form can lead to serious health problems and even death.

The best prevention of serious health risks associated with smoking is to stop using tobacco. The Department of Health works with communities, schools and organizations across the state to promote healthy, tobacco-free lifestyles and reduce tobacco-related illnesses.

The Department's Tobacco Use Prevention and Control Program is a comprehensive, evidence-based public health program aimed at reducing the health and economic burden caused by tobacco. People who want to quit using tobacco can call the Department's toll-free, bilingual help line, 1-800-QUIT NOW from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

Dr. Marciniak is the regional health officer for the New Mexico Department of Health in 10 counties in southwestern New Mexico.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
