So, a LP patient goes into a bar . . .

Recommended Posts

Went to a farewell for a co-worker after work today and was a little lost. I don't drink - my usual bar drink was always club soda with lime - and I couldn't think of a low-cal, non-alchoholic, non-carbonated beverage to order. I asked for a glass of Water with a lemon wedge. Then, of course, there was the food. It was supper time and I was, as usual, really really hungry (only had one fill so far, certainly not at my "sweet spot" yet) and there were nachos and wings. I had a small plate of nachos and 2 wings. then, I thought, I can't drink my drink now. What a rookie. Can someone help me here? I hardly ever go to the bar, but there's another work-related gathering coming up . . . .

For a drink perhaps a pineapple/orange juice mix would be nice. Sure it has calories but it would give you something to sip at. I'm not a drinker either so not sure what I would do at such a function. If you are at a restaurant perhaps you could order an app that is more in line with your Diet needs. chicken Satay or chili.

Cranberry juice is good and most bars have it, looks like a cocktail with not to many calories and some Vitamins to boot.

Ask for a Skinny Girl Margarita next time they are approximately 100 calories. Or you could do Vodka and Crystal Light, bring your own packets in your purse. Instead of Cranberry juice Cocktails. Get the alcohol with no juice and add Crystal Light packets.

I drink lime and soda or lemon lime and bitters. I have been told carbonated drinks are fine so long as they don't cause me any discomfort.

These kind of drinks, when served in a glass, have a lot less gas in than something like a can of coke anyway. If you let them stand for a while then they have even less gas in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
