Is Food Still Your Enemy...

Recommended Posts

OMG people, I'm having a rough patch!!! :blushing: I luv to eat - duh, that's what put me in this spot to begin with.

But I'm wondering if I'm out on a limb with the food struggle. I'm doing the right things but I feel like that deprived stepchild. What really added insult to injury is I cooked a healthy Soup, mixed veggies, fat free broth, lean ground turkey, french bread (regular white) and wheat Pasta... why oh why have I gained 3 lbs?!?! I know it's not much but when doing what I can...my guess it was the bread & pasta; eventhough I didn't eat a jethro bowl or 5 pieces of bread - so I just stopped eating any of it and cut back more....but I'm in a nasty funk about it!!!

Am I alone on this.....I feel like it?

Your not alone!!! I was banded about a month after you...food is a never ending battle! I had my first fill yesterday and still can eat as much as I could before the fill..so frustrating. I have lost some weight but its been 80% me and 20% the band. the doctor even put in 3cc's yesterday for a total of 4 and still not good restriction. I havnt lost any weight in 2 weeks. I did find that if I eat carbs I dont lose at all..but if I cut out on the carbs and eat more Protein and some veggies I start losing a little again. Carbs make me feel bloated and I honestly think that for some people carbs just dont work. Good luck in your journey..its definitly a process and not one that goes fast, at least for most people.

Two different topics here.

1) Do you have sufficient restriction? It takes some people 3-5+ fills to achieve this.

2) Are you creating a calorie deficit? Is the deficit too big? Are you exercising sufficiently?

Good luck... lots of trial and error but you'll know when you have it figured out because a light bulb will turn on in your head! :blushing:

I think adding things like carbs (pasta and bread) to a Soup sabotage your efforts. Make the soup without the whites next time and limit it to only one bowl a day and you will see more success I am sure. Many doctors say no soup later in the diet because it just slips through the band and you most likely eat more than 4 grams of it at a sitting (excluding the liquid in it)

It's a struggle but today, I ate nothing white but turkey meat. I'm doing the Protein & walking; can't do anything strenuous b/c of my fibromyalgia so that may be my slow weightloss down fall. I have some restriction but I can still eat more then half cup at one time. I'll schedule another fill in another week or so.

One day at a time.....today was a decent day. Let's pray for tomorrow. Thanks for the support and pointers.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
