va_viv 3 Posted September 8, 2010 Hi everyone! This is my first time posting a thread. :couch2: Hope everyone is doing well in their process. I'm getting banded on October 6th and I'm having a hard time deciding on how long to take off from work. I work at an accounting firm with minimal "manual labor" and I sit at a desk and stare at a computer all day. Since my surgery is on a Wednesday I was thinking of taking the rest of the week off and coming back to work on Monday. My dr said that since I previously had 2 out patient surgeries it shouldn't be a problem for this one to be out patient as well. Also, I remember when I got my gallbladder removed in '08 I took a week and a half off but I was fine to go to work before then...just lazy I guess. For the people that have been banded can you tell me how long you were out or how long it took you to feel good enough to go back to work? If you haven't been banded yet I would also like to hear from you...how long are you planning to take off? Nobody knows I'm getting the surgery..not my boss, co-workers nobody so I want to keep a low profile. :smile2: THANK YOU FOR READING!!! :blushing:

I was banded last Friday, Sept. 3. Today is day 6. I'd hoped to go back to work today, but after getting up and ready, I had such gas pains still that I just couldn't make it. Honestly, though, on a scale of 1-10, pain never got above a 5. liquid children's Asetametaphine works well. (just hard to gag down) Will go back tomorrow. Good Luck. AlienBandit 10 Posted September 9, 2010 I'm a teacher so I sit a lot doing class prep and spend some time standing, no heavy lifting etc. I got my band on a Saturday and went back to work on Monday. It was a little hard getting up and down but once I started moving I felt better. By Wednesday I was back to my normal self.

jpatches 0 Posted September 9, 2010 Hi, I took a week and a half off. I felt better after only about 4 or 5 days. The week and a half helped because after the surgery my body just felt tired for a while. I took a lot of naps while I was out. It was not uncommon for me to take one or two naps a day, and I am normally not a nap type person. I thinks rest really helps with the healing process. AmyC315 0 Posted September 9, 2010 I have a desk job too. I took 2 1/2 weeks, I could have gone back in 1 week, but figured I'd milk it for as long as I could and my doctor basically let me decide when I wanted to return to work.:blushing:
jingleboob 5 Posted September 9, 2010 I was banded on a friday and took the whole following week off. I have a job where I sit in front of a computer and microphone so no manual labor. I probably would have been ok to come back after about 4 or 5 days, but would have been sore and tired by the end of the day. I had the vacation time so I took a whole week. shelyshely 0 Posted September 9, 2010 I'm a bank teller, had surgery on Friday went back to work on Wednesday and left a little early that day. I was really tired that whole week afterwards and should have taken that week off. Everyone knew I had surgery so they were really helpful and understanding, no one wanted me to over do it. The pain wasn't so bad I was just sore and felt weak, my pants were also uncomfortable so I had to wear pants that I would normally only wear at home to work.
