Hello all! I was banded on Sept. 2 (one week ago tomorrow). I am feeling okay overall, lots of gas pain, but otherwise no problems. I just can't tell where my port is! I feel like I am stupid for asking this, and maybe I should have asked before I left after surgery, but I was so loopy! There are sensitive places where I think the port may be, but I am just not sure. After reading several posts on here about port problems, I am beginning to obsess about this, I am worried that I am going to do something to mess it up. How do you know where your port is? Thanks for answering my stupid question!! Also, where do I get a fancy ticker?!?! Super excited about this decision and where it will lead. I lost 18 pounds on pre-op diet and 5 since the surgery. I am over the moon about that. Thanks for all the help, in advance.

Hey Amanda,

Different Dr's place the port in different places but in my experience a lot of folks have theirs where mine is.

My port is towards the middle of my chest closer to my right breast. I was just banded 8/16 but my port protrudes so I can visibly see where mine is already it doesn't bother me for now. I'm hoping it will be easier to get fills.

I've heard of some being placed around the waist area too.

If you gently poke around and feel for an object about the size of a quarter you might feel it.

I hope this helps. To get a ticker just click on someone elses like mine and that will take you to the site. If you find out how to change the ticker PM me and let me know.:blushing:

Dee

Most likely your port will be near you largest incision. For me personally it is about 2 or 3 inches to the left of my belly button, but I know it can also be under your ribs or some doctors will place it near your breast bone. This was the incision that seemed to take the longest to heal for me personally, and was tender for probably a good 6-8 weeks.

I didn't know where my port was either until I went to have my x ray and actually could see it!

I was also told that the port most likely was under the longest incision.

Every doc is different and puts them in different places, kind of like a trademark so they know where to find them for fills.

My port is to the right and slightly north of my belly button. I was banded on the 2nd also, and I've just now gotten to where I'm not so swollen, and if I press a little, I can feel it.

mine is right above and to the side of my belly button right at my largest incision site.

My port was placed slightly above and to the right of my belly button, at my largest incision. Prior to my 1st follow-up I was concerned bcuz I could not feel it beneath the incision. I thought it must have tilted or flipped. Come to find out it is about 2-3 inches above the largest incision. The doc assured me that tilting & flipping was extremely rare. He also explained how we are lying down when they implant the port and that everything shifts slightly when you stand-up which is why it seems to have moved. Now that I know where it is I can easily locate it but only when I'm standing.

Thanks for all the replies! I found it, the longest incision, the most painful incision, and what I thought was just swelling is actually the port. I'm not going to lie, I'm a little freaked out by that!! Thanks for your help all!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
