Restriction, but not losing weight.. help?

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 6/3/10 and I was losing weight through out June and July. Pre-op and the weight i lost during the two months is about 30 lbs. But August I actually gained weight. I got a fill later in August and I am up to 5ccs in a 10cc band. I feel A LOT of restriction, and i eat a lot less. I also work out monday-friday. I lost 2 lbs right after my fill... but nothing since. I dont understand. I dont want to get another fill and be uncomfortable. I am kinda discouraged.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

:thumbup:Believe me your eating enough, drink lots of Water, I had my band 09/23/07 and I started out at 187 and I am still sitting on 149-151 can shake it. I have a 3 fills I guess I need another, I dont eat alot, you can't, I just dont each the right stuff and I surely dont drink enough water, I started out drinking lots of water then I just stopped, not good. Good Luck< I love my Band and would not change it for the world, I tell everyone I meet, if you need it do what you can to get it.

Restriction =/= weight loss. Yes, it does help, but just because you've reached restriction doesn't automatically mean the scale is going down.

If you aren't tracking what you eat, start. See how many calories you're getting a day. You may not be eating enough, or you may be eating too much.

Are you exercising? Exercise is really a must, and just walking really won't cut it. Try to up your exercise; do something a little bit more intense.

It all comes down to calories in calories out. I learned the hard way with that but when you burn more calories than you eat, you lose weight.

.

Sorry but I have to dispute that statement :) walking cuts it just fine  I have shifted 48kgs in 13 months and apart from incidental everyday movement, the only exercise I do is walking.

I eat good stuff, not too much & not too little and walk for a couple of hours each day.

Any regular exercise is good and if you are carrying extra weight you have to increase your fitness without over straining your heart so modify any fitness routines so that you are increasing activity slowly to improve fitness without added strain to your body and risk of injury both of which are negative given the stresses and strains our bodies are already under.

My opinion.

Well, congrats on your loss! That is truly an amazing amount. I stalled when I did nothing but walk. I guess it can work for some, but I need to do cardio/weight-lifting to get my body into the shape it needs to be. I was pretty out of shape and doing the exercise that I do has really improved my energy levels and I can do more for longer.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
