Banded Aug 17th and HUNGRY! Help

Recommended Posts

I was banded August 17th, followed the 2 week liquid diet after, and now have completed week 1 of mushies. I have one more week of mushies and have started to want to cheat. I haven't yet, but I feel like I could without harming the band. I go onto solid foods in 1 week and have my first fill 2 weeks after that. So that makes 3 more weeks without a fill. How did others get through this time?:)

I got through this stage with eating high Protein foods like fish, and eggs. For me, going back to work and being busy and not home thinking about being hungry helped a lot. When I got home I would eat a small meal, go walking, bathe and then straight to bed and not have to think about being hungry. For me, it was all about getting into a routine. I was a lot like you. I wanted to cheat SO VERY BADLY but I got scared and never did. The pay off was a loss of 10 pounds the first week. Hang in there. Read a book, blog on this site, keep busy, busy, busy!!

i was banded the day before you. i don't get my first fill till mid-october. i was starving for the second week of liquids and the first week of soft and pureed foods and i did wind up cheating some, which was a bummer for me because i didn't cheat at all in my pre-surgery period. i skipped the second week of soft/pureed foods because i feel completely healed and have no restriction whatsoever. i feel much, much better. it is so nice to have food that actualy requires digestion in your system and i made my Protein goal without a Protein shake today, which also means more food! i feel so much better. i still have a week to go before i can really start introducing everything back in but at least having ground meats, toast, and nonfat cheeses again makes me feel like i am eating more normally again. i have also already lost 74 lbs. and am down to 48 lbs. to goal so i don't feel the urgency to lose weight rapidly. my original goal was to hit goal by one year from when i started which was april 23rd and now i am looking at only 12 lbs per month to hit it by new years.

obviously, you need to make the right decisions for yourself. and if you do decide to move forward as i did, just use common sense and caution. personally, i can hardly wait for my fills because then this extremely low calorie regimen will make a lot more sense to me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
