Confused and annoyed

Recommended Posts

My surgery is this Friday the 10th, and I have been trying the liquid stuff for two days and feel awful today. Like I am getting the flu, is this common when you are not eating? Anyway, I have contemplated cancelling the surgery like 20 times already since I scheduled it a month ago. I annoy myself and confused with all of these emotions. Like, do I really want to put this in my body? I guess these fears are probably "normal" but I am a mess.

Thanks for listening,

KRP:eek:

I think it is normal to feel awful when you are not eating. I know I ALWAYS do!! Hang in there!!

I really believe that you'll be sorry if you cancel the surg! It's the best thing I've ever done. But you have to do what is right for you! Don't cancel because of fear though, only cancel if you think it's really not right for you! Good luck you'll be in my thoughts!!

I think it's common to get sick. Especially since you are not eating how you are used to eating, your body has to process this a new way, and you may be more susceptible for a few illnesses, or your just run down and having phantom symptoms. But most surgeons let you have surgery unless you are 1) Running a fever. 2) Throwing up. 3) And/or Its respiratory. Good Luck, I am in the same boat, just a few more days until my surgery!

Time to double up on the Vitamin C and zinc. Otawalla has a drink called Monster C and I would chug one. It works really well when you feel illness setting in.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
