Recommended Posts

I really want to have the Lap Band surgery but my insurance compnay won't approve or pay for it. Does anyone know of any doctors that accept payment plans?

If you live near NYC, NYU accepts payment plans. But try to appeal your insurance. I was denied by my insurance and NYU office did a medical appeal and got it over turned. There may still be hope that insurance will pay! Maxi2010

The wording in most insurance plan information is designed to discourage you from proceeding with the process. The first thing you need to do is call your insurance and ask "do i have any exclusions in my policy for weight loss surgery" some employers do have exclusions in their plans. They may tell you it has to be medically nessassary, and you need to be over a specific BMI. As long as there is no specific exclusion in your policy, you go through the process, and if they deny you, then you appeal. If you read through these boards you will see numerous stories of the "hoops" people have had to jump through to get approved. But if your BMI is high enough, and there is not an exclusion in your policy then it is worth the effort. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
