Hello Friends,

I was banded on 08/20/2010 and have lost 16lbs so far.

I was reading other posts and don't feel I am loosing as much as others. I was on the liquid diet post opp for almost 2 weeks, but started soft foods three days ago. Everything seems to go down fine and not having any issues. I am starting to feel hungry and I could eat more (doing my best to not). Will I start loosing more once I have a fill? I have been walking at least every other day and drinking 64 ounces of Water. Any input would be great.

The first month is about healing - not about losing weight. You're doing fine. This is a process.

The 16lbs you have lost is a great loss! Remember, you can't compare your loss to anyone else's on here; all of our bodies are so different that not one person is going to lose like the next. This is your own personal journey and while others may be losing quickly, you're losing as well, and you'll get to your goal, maybe just not as quickly. Just remember that the scale is going down, not up. Keep your eye on the prize; you'll get there.

Hi 9384,

We were banded on the same day! So far Ive lost 13lbs the first week then gained 1.5 lbs on the end week.

It was a bit frustrating for me because I meet with a dietician every week and she wants me to lose 13lbs a week!!

I have no idea how I could lose 13lbs every week for the first month!!

I think you should have a talk with the Nut. I don't think it is really possible to loose 13 pounds a week consistently. My surgeon wanted to put me on a preop diet for like 3 months that was 500 calories a day (crazy) and he said well you could lose a pound a day. That would only be 7 pounds. I did not loose any weight on his diet after 5 days. It was giving me allergic reactions so I stopped. I am 26 days post op and have lost 15 pounds (which I think is all fat because I had lost over 80 pounds preop so I don't think there was much Water weight to be had.).

Actually, in this case; she should compare herself to others instead of being skeptical.

Most don't lose 16 pounds in just over 2 weeks. That number is phenomenal.

Congrats on the weight loss but god only knows how much you were expecting to be down in just 17 days.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
