My doctor said not to use a straw when drinking. Do you all do that?

I miss my straw and I never thought that I would, lol!

They say not to use a straw because it may cause gas. I tried it and they are right. because all of our bodies are different best thing to do is try it out. See for yourself!! you will learn that with the band in order to know how something will be you must try it.

I love how all doctors are different. Mine prefers you drink out of a straw because it keeps you from gulping your drink.

My surgeon doesn't have the "no straw" rule either - I use one whenever I go out!

My doctor said not to use the straw because it would cause air which means being uncomfortable. I was always a straw drinker too but have learned to accomodate because I don't like the discomfort. I have alot of acid reflux since surgery and have found that using a straw makes it worse.

My doctor has the no straw rule and I'm a girl who love the break the rules!! lol I still drink from a straw from time to time but it does give me extreme gas but I just let it rip and keep on going. I normally drink from a straw to drink my Protein Shakes since I hate them some much I seem to be able to drink them faster with a straw. I also use them when I go out to eat. But if you don't mind the gas I say go for it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
