Hi I am new and hope to have a band soon

Recommended Posts

I went to my seminar Seminar 1 and the next day submitted application to Surgeon and waiting for his office to call me to see if my insurance pays for the surgery. I am just starting my journey and I have UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus. I hope it is a simple as everyone here says.

Hi there! I was banded a little over a week ago, and my process was the opposite of simple. I have GHI PPO and had to have 6 months of doc supervised weigh ins & surgical clearance from an array of specialists. I also had to meet with their nutritionist & attend a support group at their office. I hit some personal roadblocks along the way, some due to my lack of commitment to the process and some that were completely out of my control. When I attended my first educational seminar I thought hey, no big deal--I can do this. Then as each specialist required multiple visits I got discouraged. Needless to say I kept with it and am happy I didn't give up.

I hope you have a seamless process, but if no----don;t give. Keep your eye on the prize!

~~M

You should be able to call your insurance or check your policy online to see if you have coverage.

Most have their plan brochures online and the language is fairly plain if surgery is covered or not.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
