Eat too much break your stitches........

Recommended Posts

Just went to my doctor today for my post op. It has been 5 days since my surgery. I admitted I slightly cheated last night to my doctor. He warned me that I am on 3 weeks of liquids and 2 weeks of mushies for a purpose. If you eat before your band has settled in to place your upper stomach pouch will expand and you can break your stitches that the doctor puts in to keep your lap band in place. He warned me I could be out another $15k to re-do my surgery if I do not follow his directions and m band slips.

Just a word to the wise and letting those of you that are eating way before you should that there is a reason for the liquid and mushies. Don't cheat or else.........

I want to preface by commenting that I think my sister is nuts to watch surgeries on Discover/science channel. Well on YouTube there are doctors that post video's of lap band surgeries. I decided to watch one and it was very educational. Not at all bloody! They use a cauterizing tool that burns through the fat and other structures so there is no blood. My blood does'nt bother me but other peoples does.

Anyway. Watching the doctor put the band on and then sewing small portions of the stomach above and below the band together (to keep it from moving) was a real eye opener. They don't sew it all the way around so it's really only a couple stitches. It's really easy to see how they could break if you began eating regular food to early.

Also they show how the liver is moved out of the way. So you can also see how important it is for the liver to be thin and pliable.

I think I have been lucky in that I have'nt really been hungry on the liquid diet. Just more bored.

I had been reading about so many people cheating in a big way early after post op and I wanted them to know that there is a big risk when you do this.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
