Experiencing things with pregnancy

Recommended Posts

I am just now 30 weeks. I had my band emptied due to at fiirst being pregnant with twins and my age and well over all I was extremely high risk and my OB actually did not want to deal with any complications. I get to my band doctor and he only takes out 4cc's in my 8.7cc fill which was my sweet spot.

Issue now is being able to eat what I wanted and even gained 40lbs so far I am finding that I am getting stuck now just like as if my band was at restriction can this be possible..meaning restriction with no restriction does that make sense to you ladies? It's almost wierd Ilike it but hope that I don't do nothing to the band. All this as I am getting further along any experiences alike?

I'm no expert but it seems to me he should have removed all of the Fluid, if not, almost all.

I am 37 weeks and never got unfilled, although I have heard a lot of women have restriction problems as they get further along in their pregnancy...because everything gets tighter up in your stomach area from the baby growing...I don't have any suggestions other then calling your band doctor and asking if you might need to get unfilled more...Hope you get the problem fixed, getting stuck is not fun...

when i got banded, I always imagined it would be like my third pregnancy. My daughter was breech and sat really high, i could barely breath and eating was uncomfortable. I'd eat two bites of something and be really really full.

Banding feels exactly like that did to me. Its very common to not be able to eat a lot in the latter stages of pregnancy. I couldnt bend over without whatever was in my stomach coming out my nose either. All that AND I barely had a bump, that's how far and deep inside she was.

So even though I'd tend to be thinking you need another unfill, it may not entirely solve the problem. It might just be the pregnancy. Its also unlikely to be any real problem with the band, just a problem with extra restriction.

Its probably up to you whether you unfill more or not - it depends what you're managing to get down. You need nourishment of course, but as long as you can manage that, you probably dont need to gain more actual weight now.

I had to get a partial unfill when I found out I was pregnant because my band tightened. At 20 weeks, I'm starting to feel it tighten again. It's common. Most people don't need unfills while others do. Each person is different :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
