First Fill? 2.7cc

Recommended Posts

I am confused? I just had my first fill... Is 2.7cc too much? If there is only room for 4, is 2.7 ok?

I do not know what the machine is called, but the Dr. put some saline in, I drank some barium, then she put a little more in which was too much because it didn't go thru (which was so cool to see) and then she took a little out...

(I thought it was neat to see the stuff going down because I guess I get paranoid that the stuff I am swallowing doesn't go where it should, but it did!)

Thanks!!!

Just mainly looking for others with the same experience...

I just had my 3rd fill this past Tuesday and now have 2.2ccs. I'm feeling good restriction and have had no problems thus far.

It matters less about the number, and more about the level of restriction you experience. Sounds like all went well. My doc does something similar...fill till closed, back off till open, done! You may not need another fill for a good long while now. Make it work for you, ease back into regular foods...kind of like the post-banding stages. Don't go straight to hard protiens until you get a feel for how this fill does you.

Welcome to restriction!

I had my first fill on December 1, no restriction to speak of. They put 1 cc into my 4 cc band...

I'm scheduled for this afternoon (12/15) for my second and going tell them "...fill 'er up, please!"

I also had 1cc and feel like I am still wide open. I can eat anything.....bread, steak, eggs. I am ready to schedule another fill also.

I had my first fill this past Monday and I asked him at that time what size band I have. I have a 10 cc band. He was only going to put in 1cc in, but I had no restriction with that so he put in another .5 cc. He said that would be all he would put in at this visit. I honestly have some restriction, but not what I thought I would. I'm just getting used to chew, chew chewing again. I was able to eat just about anything with not a whole lot of problems. Now I do have that momentary stick once and a while. I go back in 6 more weeks for another fill. We'll see how much he puts in at that time. He did it all without the use of the flouroscope. He did it all by feel and all went well.

Good luck to everyone and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

i had the EXACT same thing happen to me a week ago... first fill. blind fill, no fluroscopy, only 1.5 cc in the band, a 10cc band. not much restriction still, but i get a little tight sometimes if i take a big bite of chicken or something... I'm losing about 2 - 3 lbs per week, just from diet and exercise. which I'm happy about, but I was anticipating restriction with the first fill. I go back in mid-Jan for my next fill. hopefully i will have restriction then.

I got 2.6 the first time. It was my sweet spot and has been the only one I needed. But each is different. Good luck!

I had 2cc put in my first fill and I was DYIN! I tried to put up with it for almost a month before going back and having some taken out. Dr M took me down to 1cc, which was a little less than I wanted. It seems to be pretty good for now tho. I'm restricted and choke up if I eat too fast or too much, but I can actually participate in the holidays a LITTLE.

When I was severly restricted it just made me eat more high-calorie liquids and chips (because they were one of the few things that didn't choke me). You may think you want tight restriction, but believe me, it's a miserable state.

That almost makes me want to pb just thinking about being that tight again. Like Kare, I tried to maintain the "over"fill for a month, it was awful, I won't try to be a martyr again, that slight unfill did the trick. I had a smidgen more added in September, and will probably get a little more after Christmas, but the thought of being too tight again really scares me.

The thought of being too tight gives me the heebie jeebies too and I'm only just banded and have no fill. I cant imagine one at the moment because I'm plenty restricted for now. But I think my doc fills little but much more often, like every 2 weeks, must ask him about that when I go for my first.

I'd rather have to use a teensy bit of willpower and have room - last week when I was fainting all over the place and really really needed to get some serious energy into my body, I couldnt, that was very scary. And seriously, since I've loosened up as the swelling's gone down, and can get more in more regularly, I'm losing more weight more quickly.

So just see how you go, if you feel it's too tight dont hesitate to go back and get some taken out.

I just had my first fill yesterday, and my doctor put in 2cc. I was AMAZED that I felt nothing and how fast it was over.

I had no restriction at all after my surgery on 11-21-05. I was able to eat most anything and was watching what I ate on my own- I am down 24 pounds since I began the liquid pre-op on 11-15. My doctor said that he will not give more than 2cc on the first fill and to qualify you have to be able to eat chicken without any problem. He said to come back when I stopped losing a pound a week, but that I could get more fill if I felt I needed it in two weeks.

I am glad to read what others had put in on their first fill. I sometimes wonder if I will ever feel the restriction of special feeling in your chest that they told me about.

By the way, I love my doctor! He is Dr. Trace Curry in Cincinnati Ohio. The hospital he works out of is only 30 minutes from home and he is available for fills and unfills with just a short notice. He really seems to know what he is doing.

I posted that my first fill was 1 cc. I had my second fill yesterday morning that put at 1.5 ccs. I can barely get sips of protien drink down today. I think I just have a lot of swelling, but I feel like this will leave me with some restriction. It is strange how different we all respond.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
