Concerns about approval

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am concerned about getting approval through my insurance company. I am 28 with a BMI of 41. The thing is that I have no health problems. The only thing wrong with me besides beign morbidly obese is that June 2009 I fell down one step and broke my ankle in three places. Now I am full of plates and screws and cannot walk for any period of time, never mind trying to jump or walk on uneven ground. I think that a good weight loss might ease up on the ankle and better my quality of life. Nevermind the fact that my father was diagnosed with diabetes right before his 50th birthday and there is a long history of heart disease in the family. As well as my mother suffering from a major stroke at the age of 38. All this taken into consideration, I have choose to start my journey. Is there anyone else going through this? I feel that I am just too healthy for the insurance company....GO FIGURE! I guess only time will tell!

If your BMI is 40 or above, most insurances do not require any co-morbidities. You should be approved with no issue at all. If you cal your insurance carrier, they will tell you the bariatric requirements.

I was very nervous that I wouldn't get approved either because my BMI was under 40. I did, however, have many other health conditions. I thought for sure though that they would deny me. I was approved in six days. I had surgery on Aug 17. It's the best thing I ever did.

Call your insurance carrier and find out the requirements. It will ease your mind.

I thought I was going to get denied because of my age. I'm 22, and I thought they would think that I should at least "try" to lose weight. (I had recorded weight loss attempts since I wa 12). My BMI was like 52 and I did have some hypertension, but I wasn't on medicine for it. However, I was approved with no issues. I think you will do fine. Just give you insurance a call. :) If your surgeon's office is as wonderful as mine, (I have a wonderful insurance lady that does all the dirty stuff for the insurance) they will help you with your insurance battles.

I have just begun the journey. I went on Wednesday to my first consult and took all required paperwork with me. I am 37 with a BMI of 43 NO comorbities at all. I too was worried about being too healthy in some respects but after meeting with the surgeon and everyone else there he and the insurance girl told me that it would be on the contrary, I should have an easier time getting approved because other than being overweight I have no issues. Lots less to do as far as paperwork and clearances. Hopefully they know what they are doing. This doctor has performed over 4500 lap band procedures so I am confident that he and his staff know what they are doing. We shall wait and see I should have an answer by the end of September with any luck it will be sooner.

Most insurances cover for BMI's over 40. I started with a BMI of 41 as well and my surgery was covered 100%. Of course it all depends on your plan. Take a peak at your insurance companies website....it will probably give you all the requirments needed in order to qualify! Good luck hun!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
