My first post--I'm getting the band oct 14--I wish I wasn't so nervous! All the FAQ's in the world cannot get rid of these jitters. It cannot come too soon.

:grouphug: I bet if you look at all the clothing catalogs, that pain will be easier to withstand! LOL.... It is sooo encouraging to hear that it is bearable. I know they say it is not as bad as childbirth, but it has many, many years since I have given birth. And the memory does fade. I'm looking to you to know that I will survive.

My husband is having a very hard time because I can't eat this week. He told me last night that I could back out any time I wanted to. I keep telling him that it will be better....eventually. I will be able to eat most everything I love but in a lot smaller portion. Five more days! If I can hang in there. I have to admit, I have gotten hungry several times. How do you get past this? What did you "eat" pre-op? It is so hard to come up with different things to drink. And of course, the headache! Ugh!

Please let me hear from you. It's good to have friends to go through this with.

Blessings, Pat

I was nervous too, but just kept thinking about me in 1 year. Good luck with your surgery tomorrow Jojo

Pitpat: Are you allowed sugar free Jello, broth and/or sugar free freezer pops? The Jello really helped me and I was drinking beef or chicken bullion a few times each day too.

I had 3 weeks pre-op that consisted of 2 Protein Shakes and 1 Protein Bar and 2 cups of vegetables per day and other than Water coffee tea and diet drinks that was it! I cheated a couple of times late at night but all in all did pretty well losing 15.6 lbs by surgery day. I didn't get headaches at all which is unusual for me on a diet.

Walking is really helping and take pain meds I'm on Tylenol 3's and they help too. I'll be sending you my prayers, you'll be just fine and we'll be dropping those pounds before you know it.:w00t:

PuppyBandit: Yes, I am. I am not a fan of bullion....but I might have to change my mind. I will try again tomorrow. The SF Jello really helps but I guess I want to bite something....it's a mind thing. Thanks for the suggestions. if you have any more, just let me know. I do appreciate any advice I can get.

Does anyone have thyroid issues? I do, and was wondering what others are doing about their thyroid. I started out with Grave's disease and then they gave me radioactive iodine. FUN......... When the thyroid bottomed out, I started on synthroid. I've been taking synthroid for a little over twenty-five years. I'm wondering...Now what?! If you have any ino on it, let me know.

Thanks to all,

PitPat:wink:

how about real broth and pretend there are dumplings in it :) I do understand the wanting more thing. I had 4 Protein Shakes each day and thank goodness they were very filling. I mentally wanted fast food tho

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
