So I got banded on May 17Th. I am down about 70 lbs and feeling great. I had the surgery just North of Boston at Lahey Clinic and they were awesome. Best hospital experience ever. At first I had my doubts because they were not a huge Boston Hospital but I quickly learned that they are just as good if not better.

Anyways. For the past 4 months I have been really working with my band and trying to figure out what I can and cannot do. I have noticed that I am having a hard time staying consistent with my eating habits. I haven't really been weighing my food and I am wondering if i am heading down the wrong path. I am still eating so much less than I was. Basically a chicken breast some veggies and some brown rice. I just get nervous sometimes that I am doing it wrong. That's just me.

I have also noticed that I am able to tolerate most things that other band patients cannot, like Pasta. Or every once and awhile a piece of bread.

Basically I am just a little concerned that I am being a little to lazy with the great tool that I have. I am still losing weight and and feel great. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

First off, congratulations on your weight loss! Secondly, you are down by 70 pounds, so you ARE doing something right

I think you should try to be more consistent with measuring food until you feel comfortable with eye-balling your portions.

But overall, I am so inspired after reading your post! Best of luck to you :):)

I think you're doing okay and a huge congrats on your 70lb loss. That is awesome! Unless you're gaining, PBing, sliming, etc, you are probably doing just fine. I weigh/count my calories like a fanatic, but that's because I'm so anal about things.

I too can eat bread sometimes but I haven't tried/wanted Pasta or rice lately. Just because you can eat those things doesn't mean you aren't using your band! Some people prefer to have a tigher band while others prefer it to be a little bit more on the loose side. Either way, as long as the scale is going down and you're feeling great, I don't see the issue.

If you do start to gain, I would definitely go back to measuring, but if you're doing okay with just eyeballing things then keep at it!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I think I am leaning towards having a tighter band. I have noticed that I am starting to be able to eat little bit more that I should. I am going to make an appointment to get an adjustment.

I am very happy that I chose the band over the bypass. This was just the push in the right direction that i needed to get to a better life. I talk to people that say they would never do this because they enjoy food. I enjoy food now more than ever. I eat only the best. I get to taste every bite. Not just inhale what is in front of me. I am tasting food now better than I was before surgery.

This site is going to be another great tool for me. Getting to talk to people that are in my shoes will be great.

Congrats on your 70m pound loss! I hope to post something like that in my future. I have not had the surgery, but hope to really soon...and my main concern is again food that I will not be able to eat, but my desire to be healthy and be around for my children is great that the loss off the food that I will not be able to eat....I wish you much success in the future!

All the best to you. I too am slightly nervous about what and when to eat although I'm staying within my doc's guidelines. I was just "banded" on Aug. 18. Yesterday was my first small meal day. Felt strange to chew again. I have lost 25 lbs since week 1 (liquid protein) so I hope I do as well as you.

Since I'm new to this web cite and Lapband "speak", can someone tell me what PBing and sliming is?

I think you're doing great to lose 70lbs in 5 months is awesome.

This site is great but one problem I see including for me is that we can get caught up in what someone else is doing and eating and think we should be able to do or eat that too.

Your band is yours and you don't sound like your suffering you sound like your doing great for you.

Your not doing anything wrong because its working great for you.

I read of some of the things some eat here and I haven't tried it and I don't want to. Maybe later I will though.

Some won't eat what I eat ,like today I had a pc. of ckn .wing because I was out and felt so hungry so I stopped at Popeyes. I had 2 drumette pcs and the flat pc whatever that's called. It took me a couple of hours to eat that but that's ok as long as I'm losing I'm Ok. I have a long way to go so I can't torture myself.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
